Globalization and Air Transport: Strategies of Central European Legacy Carriers
Kořený, Petr ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kopačka, Ludvík (referee)
As the world changes because of the globalization, the environment of the aviation changes as well. The airlines are forced to adapt to these changes and choose new strategies to operate successfully. The main objective of this thesis is to, according to the title, describe, identify and explain the processes which significantly affect current image of the world of aviation and focus on four Central European legacy carriers. The issues of globalization and its affect on behavior of economic actors, which airlines are, are discussed as first. The following part is dedicated to the characteristics of aviation and its components, the milieu and the behavior of the airlines as well as the newest strategic trends that are being chosen is described as well. The theoretical part is followed by the empirical one where the particular steps of examined airlines are analyzed and explained. The hypotheses concerning the probable behavior and adopted strategies of four analyzed carriers are expressed according to the discovered theoretical principles of the operations of current legacy (network) carriers. Whether the hypotheses are completely or partially confirmed, is discussed at the end of the empirical chapter. Key words: globalization, air transport, legacy carriers, airline alliances, hub and spoke, codeshare
Changes Air Transport Industry after Deregulation, Specific Case of Germany
Frühauf, Pavel ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The theme of this thesis is the air transport and its dramatic and dynamic development in the last twenty years. The key driving force behind this change was the deregulation of air agreements and liberalization of international markets, which took place in the seventies in the USA and in the nineties in Europe. This work addresses specific and general effects of deregulation and the development of air transport industry and aims to identify and analyze changes of its structures in space and time. One of the major and direct impacts and consequences of deregulation is that the free market allowed the emergence of new low-cost airlines, which significantly changed the structure and trends of air transport. The changes allowed for greater mobility of people, goods and capital, and also caused a partial change in consumer behaviour of individuals and institutions, and even more interconnected global economy. The source of data and information are primarily articles in professional journals written in English. Knowledge from particular analysis and research approaches to air traffic from the first part of this work is confronted with empirical research. This was based on the statistical data of air traffic in Germany, for each airport from 1991 to 2010 and verified the theoretical concepts of the general...
Global cities in the air transport system
Hampl, Pavel ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Vondráčková, Petra (referee)
The diploma thesis "Global cities in the air transport system" is focused on the importance of global cities for the international airline network. The first chapter defines significant clasification of the global cities and subsequently, the operational ranking is created based on the three selected rankings of global cities. Second chapter is dedicated to the system of air transport and also defines the main air transport hubs in particular world regions. Following chapter analyses transportation outputs of the airports of global cities and its growth in years 2004 - 2008 based on the economic level of each state. It also identifies factors that have the highest influence on the air transport outputs within the frame of global cities. In last chapter, the selected global cities are ranked by their connectivity within airline network based on the results of analysis of airline connectivity of global cities. In the conclusions the importance of the global cities for international airline network is summarised.

Air Traffic Flows Analysis
Šimíček, Martin ; Chlebek, Jiří (referee) ; Kujal, Tomáš (advisor)
ŠIMÍČEK, M. Air Traffic Flows Analysis. Brno: Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, 2013. 84 s. Supervisor Ing. Tomáš Kujal, Ph.D. The diploma thesis discusses the factors that affect routing and transport performance in the air transport. Besides the characteristics of these factors the main objective of this thesis is to quantitatively evaluate their level of dependence on the traffic performance of air transport. This is done by using the linear regression analysis. Based on this analysis, mathematical models of dependence of these factors on traffic performance are developed. The thesis also verifies the accuracy of these models and tries to find out which of them are usable and which are not. Their accuracy is mainly dependent on the selected track and on the type of airline.
Use of simulation models and decision-making multi criteria air transport
Kollárová, Veronika ; Kuncová, Martina (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee)
This master thesis deals with practical application of simulation models and multi criteria evaluation of different alternatives in the field of air transport. The aim of this thesis is to show, and demonstrate using a simulation as a possibility of improving arrival and departure capacity of the M.R Stefanik Airport in Bratislava. There is a selection of low cost airlines based on a customer opinion. These airlines could increase the number of offered flights from the airport. Descriptions of various simulations can be found in the theoretical part, same as WSA, TOPSIS and MAPPAC, subsequent demonstration of these methods is shown in the practical part. The thesis is based on the results of practical application of simulation models followed by the application of multi criteria evaluation of alternatives. Furthermore this thesis compares the final results of the arrangement of low cost airlines using different methods.
