The risk of working in health care
PROKŮPKOVÁ, Šárka
This diploma thesis deals with the risks of working in the health sector. Workers in the health sector are divided into two groups. The first group are the health care professionals and other workers are in health care.Risks, which acts on the medical staff, are also divided into two groups. Specific risks form the first group, which includes primarily the risk of physical, chemical and biological. The second group-non-specific risks, which consists mainly of the shift work, psychological or physical stress, the hard working position, visual stress, allergies, etc. In the theoretical part are in detail described all the risks of acting on the medical staff. For the practical part was used quantitative research using public opinion survey. The questionnaire is made up of 35 questions, which prevailed by closed questions, but questions were used as semi-open and open. The research sample consisted of medical staff (doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, female assistants, medical assistants and orderlies) from selected departments of the hospital Zatec and Most, without taking into account the representation of gender or type of department and city, and this without taking into account the representation of both sexes or the type department and cities. The questions were answered by a total of 100 respondents. In addition 3 hypotheses were established: H1. Statistically significant percentage of health professionals do not know what category of work are included - was confirmed. H2. On selected departments medics always reports injury that is caused by sharp instrument, to their manager - was refuted. H3. Treatment of biological material is selected on both healthcare facilities in accordance with the law no. 258/2000 Coll. , Section 62 (4 ) (c) and with the Decree No 306/2012 Coll. , § 5 - was confirmed.
Mental and physical stress for nurses in anesthesiology and resuscitation department
MALÍSKÁ, Veronika
The subject matter of this bachelor´s thesis is a mental and a physical strain on nurses working at anaesthesiology-resuscitation ward (ARO). Nurses' work is generally regarded as extremely demanding both physically and mentally. Nurses at intensive care are exposed to very high demands that are for them mentally and physically strenuous. Daily encounter with human pain, suffering, dying and death. At the same time, the nurse is exposed to a high physical workload, especially in nursing care, which is associated with the constant handling of immobile patients or patients with very limited movement and unconscious people. A substantial part is also caused by an underpowered staffing, from which it follows overwork-overtime. The aim of this paper is to refresh awareness about these loads that are placed on nurses and also to point out the possibilities which are and options that can help nurses to prevent the consequences of mental and physical overload and reduce the burden to the lowest possible level. To meet the intent of the thesis, there were three goals set up. Goal n. 1: To determine, whether nurses working at ARO are using procedures to reduce physical stress. Goal n. 2: To determine, whether nurses working at ARO use the opportunity to protect health from mental stress. Goal n. 3: To determine, whether the level of psychological stress of nurses working at ARO is greater than the rate of physical activity. There were three research questions defined. Research question n. 1: Are nurses working at ARO using aids to reduce physical exertion? Research question n. 2: Are nurses working at ARO using available options to protect health against increased mental strain? Research question n. 3: Is the level of psychological stress for nurses working at ARO greater than the rate of physical activity? The research sample consisted of nurses working in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (ARO) in hospitals in Písek, Český Krumlov, Tábor, Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice. A quantitative research has been used in order to achieve a practical result of the work . The method of quantitative data collection, using non-standardized anonymous questionnaire, has been used in order to obtain the information. The research showed that although the sisters´ work at ARO is very challenging so mentally so physically, which was proved by a high percentage of both types of drains, the rate of mental stress reached higher level in the research study, and so the research question of the degree of mental and physical stress of nurses at ARO has been answered. Another part of the research was about the possibilities of health protection against mental stress, both in terms of personal options of sisters and possibilities that nurses´ organization offers. This part showed that nurses use their personal possibilities of the mental hygiene methods and also options available for mental health offered by the organization. So the research question, whether nurses working at ARO are using available options to protect their health from increased psychological burden, has been answered. The last part of the survey dealt with tools and techniques which helps to reduce physical exertion for nurses working at ARO. The investigation revealed that nurses consider the material-technical equipment for workplaces as sufficient and that they use it. So the result is that the research question of whether nurses working at ARO use aids to reduce physical stress, has been answered. The outcome of the thesis, will be providing hospitals, where the research was conducted, the research results, mainly in order to increase the quality of work of the nursing team, to improve prevention of the health protection against excessive mental and physical stress in the workplace.
The Health Risks Analysis in the Workplace of Stone Quarries, Measure and Evaluation
STODOLOVSKÁ, Květa
The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate the work environment of quarries. Four research questions were asked: What factors can be determined in the working environment of quarries? Are hygienic limits of the monitored factors in the work environment of quarries respected? What measures to protect the health of workers in the quarries are applied by the employers? Are the proposed measures to protect employees' health effective? The bachelor thesis was conducted as qualitative research. Conditions in two quarries in the South Bohemian Region were studied. For data collection, the technique of direct, disinterested and obvious observation, the study of professional literature, legislation, trial protocols and the findings obtained from interviews with managers were used. The data were processed by content analysis. In the theoretical part, I focused on individual risk factors in the work environment of quarries and on health risk assessment. In the practical part, I compared the measurement results with the health limits set out in Government Regulation No. 361/2007 Coll. laying down the conditions of health protection in the workplace, as amended, and in Government Regulation No. 272/2011 Coll. that lays down hygienic limits of noise and vibration. Individual professions were categorized according to Decree No. 432/2003 Coll., as amended. The factors assessed in the work environment of quarries were quarry dust, total and hand-transmitted vibrations, noise and physical strain. The lowest rated factors include dust and total vibrations. Hygienic limits were not always observed, and thus the employer is obliged to take measures to protect the health of employees. The most important step in the development of quarries is the purchase of new, modern machines and the overall modernization of production, resulting in reduction of the workers´ exposure to risk factors.

Self-health and safety protection in the case of a mass incidence of health damage
KAMENICKÁ, Nikola
The topic of my thesis is Self-health and safety protection in the case of a mass incidence of health damage. The objective of my work was to briefly outline emergency events to which a mass incidence of health damage is considered to belong. Basic activities of medical rescue workers at the scene of such an accident are described to show the potential risks posed on rescue workers in this situation. The thesis also includes an overview of commonly used protective equipment and basic safety instructions. The goal of this study was to determine the level of abidance by principles of safety and health protection in the case of a mass incidence of health damage. Another objective was to review the awareness of risks the rescue worker profession involves in the case of a mass incidence of health damage and to compare the abidance by principles of safety and health protection between medical rescue workers and general nurses in anesthetic-resuscitation department. On the basis of these objectives hypotheses were stated. The quantitative data collection method was used to meet the purpose. The research was conducted through the questionnaire technique in the České Budějovice region. The obtained data were turned into graphs. The values were subsequently converted into percentages and placed below the charts as commentaries. In general, it is possible to say that medical rescue workers as well as general nurses abide by principles of safety measures and know the possibilities of self-protection. However, the research has shown that age has no significant effect on safety measures compliance and education does not significantly effects safety measures compliance. The obtained data show that the safety and health measures are complied with more by medical rescue workers than general nurses in Anesthesiology-resuscitation department, although there are only small percentage differences.
