Procedure of residual fatigue lifetime assesment of railway axle
Scholz, David ; Seitl, Stanislav (referee) ; Náhlík, Luboš (advisor)
The goal of the bachelor's thesis is to present options to calculate residual life of a railway axle from more sophisticated points of view. These methods are requested by railway operators to ensure higher safety of train traffic. The main issue is the perspective of fracture mechanic, considering railway axle as a component with an initial crack or other defect. The theoretical part deals with basic definitions of fracture mechanics and processes describing crack propagation, using conception of stress intensity factor, which is the most used nowadays. Following part also describes a fatique life estimation process in real. This process is demon-strated using an example after that.
Evaluation of fracture tests of selected concrete specimens
Součková, Markéta ; Lehký, David (referee) ; Keršner, Zbyněk (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with evaluation of fracture tests of selected concrete specimens. It is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical section describes fracture parameters, three point bending test and effective crack model. It explains evaluation process of the expriments step by step, too. The practical part contains charts with the resulting values of fracture parameters. The StiCrack software was used for analysis of fracture tests. The result of this thesis is comparison of influence the thength classes of concrete, age of specimens and place of ripen on the values of fracture parameters.
The Influence of Specimen Thickness on Crack Initiation in the Tip of General Singular Stress Concentrator
Kopp, Dalibor ; Řoutil,, Ladislav (referee) ; Malíková, Lucie (referee) ; Klusák, Jan (advisor)
Geometrical discontinuities, like sharp notches, appear in constructions and engineering structures and lead to stress concentrations. These technical objects are very dangerous due to the fact that they reduce the structural conformity and can lead to crack initiation. Technical objects are not always designed as homogenous bodies but can consist of two or more materials with sharp notches on the interface of these materials. The influence of free surface on crack initiation conditions is studied and assessed by means of 3D model of sharp and bi-material notches with finite thickness. Stress fields around the singular stress concentrators are calculated with finite element method and the results are evaluated by means of criterion of critical quantity. This approach is easy applicable and can be used in combination with the knowledge of basic material properties and results of finite element analysis of the assessed notches. In order to estimate weather crack will initiate from the middle of the observed notched specimen or from its free surface, the value of averaged critical applied stress was introduced. With this value it’s possible to determine the location of crack initiation thru the sample thickness. Thru the ratio of values of critical applied stress in the middle and on the free surface of the observed specimen it’s possible to quantify the influence of the free surface on the location of crack initiation. With the use of this approach it’s shown, that the location of crack initiation depends on more parameters, loading direction, the notch opening angle and the sample thickness. In case of bi-material notches it depends also on the ratio of young modulus.
Numerical simulation of crack propagation in ceramic composites in 3D
Svoboda, Josef ; Horníková, Jana (referee) ; Majer, Zdeněk (advisor)
The strength of materials such as glass and ceramics can be influenced by the environment (stress corrosion). Under applied stress defects (cracks) can grow sub-critically below fracture toughness K_Ic. The aim of this work was to develop a three-dimensional finite-element model to analyze the subcritical crack growth behavior of ceramic-based particulate composites. The maximum tangential stress criterion (MTS) was used to predict the direction of the crack propagation in the framework of linear elastic fracture mechanics. The modeled material was a Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC), containing alumina particles embedded in a glass matrix. The main aim of this work was to develop a 3D model describing the crack growth. Conclusions from this work can contribute to a better understanding of subcritical crack propagation in particle composites.
A study of the stress distribution near the sharp notch tip
Svoboda, Petr ; Majer, Zdeněk (referee) ; Profant, Tomáš (advisor)
The presented diploma thesis deals with the problem of determining the stress singularity exponent of the V-notch. This task can be divided into two parts. The first deals with the theoretical background, that means the basic relations of mechanics and the basic concepts of fracture mechanics. The second part deals with the elaboration of the Williams method and the creation of a program for calculating the stress singularity exponent.
Computational modelling of strain and stress in spur gearing using FEM
Ševčík, Martin ; Maňas, Pavel (referee) ; Vrbka, Martin (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with computation modeling of spur gearing using FEM. The methodology of checking calculation was suggested for gears which are not possible to check only by using standard ČSN 01 4686. The analysis of influence of vicinity of stress concentration on stress distribution in tooth root was performed. It is possibility to use the gears with thinner rim than the standard ČSN 01 4686 recommends. The main part of this work is devoted to fatigue crack propagation study in gears with thin rim. Aiding T-stress the influence of constraint and stress multiaxiality on crack propagation was taking into account. The predicted fatigue crack propagation paths were compared with certain experimental data. It is demonstrated that the considering of influence of constraint improves estimation of consequent crack propagation direction and in some cases the influence of constraint can significantly change the estimated crack propagation path.
A study of the stress distribution around the bimaterial notch tip
Hrstka, Miroslav ; Klusák, Jan (referee) ; Profant, Tomáš (advisor)
Presented bachelor’s thesis deals with determination of stress singularity exponent, by which is possible to completely define the stress distribution around the bimaterial notch tip. This task is divided in four parts. The first part concerns with basics of fracture mechanics, concretely linear elastic fracture mechanics of crack and Irwin’s conception of stress intensity factor. The second part deals with generalizing of linear fracture mechanics to notches. In the third part is initiated the numeric-analytical algorithm for computation of stress singularity exponent and determination of strains and stresses of given notch, which is compounded from two orthotropic materials. The last part is created by numerical example, in which the concrete configurations of notches are tested in calculating software.

Svařování polyolefinových potrubí vnáší do oblasti svaru nehomogenní rozložení materiálových vlastností a tvar svarového výronku způsobuje vznik geometrických koncentrátorů napětí.
