Spatial activity of birds and methods of its continuous monitoring

The aim of this work was to collect current knowledge of avian spatial aktivity focusing to its internal structure, using modern telemetry devices which allows continuous monitoring of small animal species. In the light of these new methods, avian home ranges seem to be more dynamic structures, changing during diurnal and nocturnal acitvities, breeding cycle, age, sex and social statut of a bird. Thanks to detailed radiotelemetry we can observe even secretive animal behaviour and its characteristics in three dimensions. Continual monitoring allows us to study migration in a detailed way, its influence to other parts of their annual cycle and to asses migration connectivity. In future these new information should be used for targeted conservation of endangered species.
Monitoring of the Wintering Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) in the Czech Republic Territory

This diploma thesis deals with the monitoring of the Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) on the wintering grounds in Kladno Kročehlavy between 2015 and 2017. The monitoring is focused on spatial activity linked to food sources and food analysis. The research aimed at finding out whether the maximum distance of night overflight is within five kilometers from the night shelter. Another focus was on the discovery of the variability of the food supply in relation to the weather over the past 10 years and the comparison of the data with the results of the already published works. Several methods were used in the research. Method of observation, capture into impact ornithological nets, ringing, collection and analysis of pellets and modern method of GPS telemetry. Using mentioned methods, it was found that the maximum distance of overflights linked to food sources is not only within five kilometers from the night shelter. These distances may vary in length. The research managed to track the overflight less than 30 kilometers away. Further findings on the content of food supply and weather showed that there has been only slight variation in the occurrence of the main boar loot in the last ten years. Evaluation of the antineoplastic treatment effects on heart electrical activity in experimental telemetric study

This master´s thesis deals with the analysis of experimental telemetrical ECG records with intention to determine the long-term influence of anticancer drug sunitinib on the electrical activity of heart. A laboratory rat was chosen as a model organism for the experimental study carried out at the Department of Physiology at Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk university. The sunitinib was applied to the rats at an early age and the ECG was measured with a 20-week delay using the Stellar telemetry system. To measure the effect of sunitinib on the electrical activity of the heart chambers, an analysis of the duration of the RR and QT interval and the width of the QRS complex was chosen. These parameters were detected by the wavelet transform method. Statistical analysis was performed using nonparametric tests - the Wilcoxon signed rank test, the MannWhitney test and the Friedman Test. The obtained results suggest that the use of sunitinib has no long-term effect on the observed parameters for the chosen animal model. After extension of the study, the results obtained could contribute to assess the effect of drugs on electrical activity of the human heart several decades after sunitinib treatment termination.
Racing motorcycle shifting system

The bachelor thesis deals with the system of gear shifting on a racing motorcycle. The aim of this thesis is to characterize the load-shifting system, to evaluate the possibilities of setting this equipment and, last but not least, to assess its impact on the achieved time on the race circuit. This thesis is divided into two interrelated parts. The theoretical part is designed to familiarize with the principle of the operation of a motorcycle gearbox and a device called quick shifter. The practical part serves to verify the theoretical information on the basis of real measurements and to evaluate the influence of the equipment on the achieved time on the race circuit.
Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population in the Prague streets Plzeňská and Mahenova

The thesis studies the quantity of feral pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica) and their daily activities in the locality of Smíchov in Prague. The research was focused on finding whether there is only one group of pigeons bound to the locality by daily activities connected to their consistent alimentary habits or whether there are two subgroups, one of them staying in the locality and the other one leaving to get food further from the city. A method of wing tags with further tracking and modern GPS telemetry was used for the research. A total of 10 birds was caught and marked by a wing tag and one subject was tracked by GPS telemetry. Using these methods, it was found that the pigeons are divided into two subgroups in the locality, one of them sticking to their overnight area even during the day and getting fed on garbage or by people and the other one leaving to get food on the fields 6km away from the city. In the sowing period, the whole group took part in leaving to get the food in the fields further from the city. Key words: feral pigeon, abundance, telemetry
Seasonal variation of activity and pathogen prevalence in populations of the spiny-cheek crayfish

The most widespread of invasive crayfish in the Czech Republic is the spiny-cheek crayfish (Orconectes limosus). It is a major disease carrier of crayfish plague, caused by the pathogen Aphanomyces astaci. The infection is lethal to European native species of crayfish. Transmission of this disease is usually associated with the spread of crayfish, which is dependent on their movement. The main aim of this work was to evaluate the differences in crayfish migratory activity in the Pšovka brook among seasons, and assess the factors that may affect it, by the use of radiotelemetry and trapping. We tested the hypothesis that crayfish use brook in the period from spring to autumn and then return back into a pond to overwinter. Furthermore, we evaluated how far from the pond crayfish migrate, and whether there is any relationship between migration and the season or water temperature. The results demonstrate that the activity varies among seasons (being strongly affected by breeding season) but in most studied periods did not significantly depend on water temperature. According to our monitoring, the spiny-cheek crayfish does not spread substantially to upstream parts of the Pšovka. Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo namesti square in Prague

"A Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo náměstí square in Prague" This thesis deals with both the monitoring of numbers in the pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica, "the Pigeon") sites in question and also the spatial definition of the daily activities of individual specimens using a telemetric system. Previous researches gathered data on population density and food routes usually obtained by observation. Therefore we believe it's important to supplement this data with spatial movement maps of individuals that cannot be obtained by observation but the telemetry system allows us to do so in certain time period. The data obtained from GPS trackers will be processed into daily spatial activity maps of the specimen. These data will hopefully help us to gain insight into the life of not just specific individuals, but will also allow us to derive spatial activity of the entire population living in the locality in question. The results will be compared with the results from the previous pigeon count. This knowledge can be useful to population control, or serve in other studies. Keywords: pigeon, abundance, telemetry
Monitoring of raccoon dog aktivity in Opava

This work deals with invasive predator racoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides). It is a comprehensive work consisting of general information about its history and later spread to the whole Word, etology and biology as information collected on the basis of thousands of images and hundreds of videos from scout camera located close to natural burrow at Opava in the hunting district hunting club in Hlavnice. The emphasis here is primarily on the course of the day and night activities throughout the year, food preferences, coexistence with other kinds of beasts and ways of dealing with stressful situations. During the observation we were found that his peak of activity was among the sunrise and the second one lately after sunset. Cohabitation with badger is also possible. As for food preferences we realized that racoon dog did not prioritize any kind of food and eat everything what we gave to him.
Microhabitat preference of male red deer in the Doupov Mts.

This thesis deals with the matter of using research microhabitat preferences male red deer ( Cervus elaphus ) in Doupov mountains and compares its telemetry data with telemetric data male sika deer Japanese ( Cervus nippon nippon ) . Using GPS navigation has been searched for each of 267 points and examined for each of them measuring. The data were processed into electronic form and are evaluated by using charts and tables. From the data I figured what microhabitat environments in these two species of deer in the summer months most moving and what kind of habitat they prefer . Interesting is certainly the fact that even though their home ranges overlap do not have the same grazing habits.
