Vaculík, Jan ; Dopieralla, Jakub (advisor) ; Tesař, Jakub (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Comparison of applied policies and approaches in selected American cities in the context of urban crime" will deal with public policies addressing the issue of urban crime in selected American cities. The main part of the work will be an overview of the situation in each city, including the implementation of individual policies in the given urban areas and then their subsequent comparison. Within each city, three topics will be covered. The first will be an outline of history in the context of the issue. The subsequent main part within each city will deal with specific policies and their results. The final part will be devoted to the elaboration of the political context. The objectives of the subsequent comparison will be the results of the strategies across the defined cities, together with the impacts and influence of individual policies on the decline in crime. The comparison will also include an overall comparison of the policies and their implications.

Quantum and tempo of population ageing process in the twelve countries of the former Soviet Union: Challenges, opportunities and public policies Abstract Population ageing is an omnipresent phenomenon which brings along unprecedented challenges to socio-economic development, especially to employment, social security and public health sectors. The broad goal of this doctoral thesis was to demonstrate that it is time to recognize the importance of population ageing and its dynamics even in the countries with relatively young population structures and to take urgent action through implementation of corresponding policy interventions in order to mitigate and eliminate the upcoming negative consequences and utilize potential opportunities. Research on population ageing in both more and less developed countries is abundant. However, amidst numerous studies, countries of the former Soviet Union remain largely overlooked. Besides, the quantum and tempo of population ageing have not been adequately addressed in the existing literature worldwide. This research addresses, to the best of our knowledge for the first time, those issues. Holistic approach to gap analysis was adopted to guide this study. The analysis was performed in three steps. The first step incorporated the identification and analysis of the observed...
Non-Government Organizations as external "suppliers" of social policy in states where is not social policy of their own
Yaklyushyna, Oleksandra ; Frič, Pavol (advisor) ; Tomášková, Vladimíra (referee)
The effectiveness of development cooperation is currently widely discussed. Development cooperation has come to be criticized, both in terms of its appropriateness and for failing to address some of the global challenges that affect poorer nations. Respecting the differences of developing countries, therefore, plays an important role. It is a question of whether developed countries are aware of cultural and other differences and are proceeding in their help concerning these differences. The problem that the thesis wants to draw attention to is the functionality of development cooperation, which can be influenced by various actors and their beliefs. The main goal is to try to explain, using the theory named Advocacy Coalition Framework, how the beliefs of actors can affect development cooperation. One of the other partial goals is to find out whether and how advocacy coalitions are formed in the field of development cooperation. The contribution of the work is mainly the critical application of the ACF theory in the field of development cooperation in the environment of the Republic of Kenya, as well as the application of the Q method in the research of the perspectives of selected actors. According to the author, the work can also have other benefits such as providing a new perspective on the issue of...
Fulfilment of the public interest in monument preservation in the Czech republic
Krejzek, Igor ; Frič, Pavol (advisor) ; Jelínková, Marie (referee)
My thesis is concerned with current problems involving fulfilment of the public interest in monument preservation in the Czech Republic. Firstly, the term "public interest" and its conceptual relationship in terms of the monument preservation is explored in the theoretical part of the thesis. Secondly, the current systems of monument preservation in the Czech Republic including the genesis of decision-making processes of municipal authorities under the current law are briefly described. This is followed by an explanation of the connection between the generally proclaimed, yet critically unexplored postulate of "two-track monument preservation". Despite clearly defined policies and competencies, the existing monument preservation decision-making systems and processes seems to be characterized by considerable confusion, and thus seem to bring about some process-based ambiguities and conflicts. The thesis not only aims to identify and analyse these ambiguities and conflicts but also strives to provide a conclusion that proposes some meaningful solutions. The benefits of the thesis for the Public and Social Policy field purposes lies in the identification and uncovering yet unexplored contextual pertinence in decision making activities within qualification works in monument preservation, as well as...

Bjaček, Jakub ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Vaceková, Gabriela (referee)
The topic of the diploma thesis is the development of the policy of Industry 4.0 in the Czech Republic. The main idea of this initiative is to respond to the coming fourth industrial revolution, which will affect not only the means of production, but also society. The concept of Industry 4.0 is thus very heterogeneous, affecting not only the change in the means of production and changes in the labor market, but also educational policy or the digitization of public administration. It is therefore an important issue that is the focus of the functioning of a wide range of actors in various areas of public policy. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the agenda of Industry 4.0 with selected main representatives who respond to this topic (from the ranks of formalized institutions). The question that the thesis tries to answer is what we can expect from the coming fourth industrial revolution in the Czech Republic and what threats, and conversely the benefits, can be expected. Especially in the labor market, which poses a specific threat to the Czech Republic, which is a highly industrialized state. The research part is focused on introduction of Industry 4.0 policies in the Czech Republic and its current form. The research was carried mainly through specific policy documents (strategies, action...
Aplikace participačních metod v městském plánování
Hanžl, Jakub
Participatory urban planning, where the public is involved in the process, is one of the prerequisites for sustainable development. It has a direct impact on the quality of life, strengthens democratic principles, transparency and accountability in city planning. Still, putting these methods into practice faces a number of problems. The author of this article examines the application of participatory methods in urban planning, their effectiveness, ethics and legislative framework, and compares them with conventional methods and examines the limits of their use.
Food Waste in the United States as an Issue of Federal Public Policy Making
Hlaváčková, Anna ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof (referee)
The Master's thesis "Food Waste in the United States as an Issue of Federal Public Policy Making" analyzes the role of the federal government in dealing with food waste. It mainly focuses on federal legislation, but it also examines actions on the state level to illustrate the contrast between the two. In the thesis, the author examines the causes and sources of food waste, federal jurisdiction for intervention, and the history of passed legislation, as well as proposed legislation, and solutions. The main goal of the thesis is to demonstrate that federal involvement is fundamental in achieving any significant change, but so far has failed to do so. Primary literature consisting largely of bills, materials published by federal agencies, and reports by non-profit organizations were used to uncover the character of passed legislation. Academic secondary literature in the form of articles, reports, and factsheets offered context to understand the scope and impacts of the legislation. Analysis of those sources revealed federal authority to deal with the issue, as well as possible obstacles standing in the way of an extensive federal intervention. Research also showed that in the absence of federal action, some states have stepped up to introduce legislation to reduce food waste, but this legislation is...
