The issue of determination of beta-blockers in surface waters
Košík, Juraj ; Píšťková, Veronika (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
This bachelor´s thesis deals with the issue of increasing concentration of pharmaceuticals in the environment. The most worldwide prescribed medications with the most frequently detection in the environment are -blockers. These compounds are clinically important drugs which are extensively used for the treatment of cardiovascular disorders such as hypertension, arrhythmia and angina pectoris. It is important to monitor the concentration levels of blockers in aquatic environment due to their acute and chronic toxicity towards aquatic organisms. This study is focused on development and optimization of analytical method of determination of these compounds. The monitored matrixes were surface water from two rivers, Váh (Slovakia) and Dyje (Czech Republic) and waste water form waste water treatment plant (WWTP) Brno-Modřice. The analytes from water samples using solid phase extraction (SPE) were isolated. For the final analysis ultra-high performance liquid chromatograph with UV-VIS detection using diode array detector (DAD) was used. As the target compounds atenolol, metoprolol and propranolol were selected.

This bachelor thesis deals with the occurrence and determination of penicillin antibiotics in wastewater. Penicillin V was selected as a representative of this class of antibiotics due to its frequent prescribing. Solid phase extraction (SPE) was selected as a method of isolation of the analyte from the wastewater. Optimal conditions were found for Bakerbond C18 SPE column. Drug analysis was carried out on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) with diode array detection (UV-VIS/DAD). Under optimized conditions, the analysis of wastewater from the WWTP Brno Modřice influent and effluent was performed.
Utilization of waste from the food industry for wastewater treatment
Nedvědická, Lucie ; Obruča, Stanislav (referee) ; Diviš, Pavel (advisor)
This bachelor thesis disserts about options and issues how to utilize waste from the food industry for wastewater treatment contaminated with heavy metals. The theoretical part describes the general characteristics of heavy metals, as well as the permissible and limit values of these heavy metals in waste water. Furthermore, it is described in this document which chemical methods can be used in order to remove heavy metals from wastewater. This thesis also deals with methods how to analyze the adsorbed amount of sorbed substance, means by using AAS, AFS, AES, MS and ICP – OES methods. At the end of the theoretical part, the issues of the different wastes from the food industry are dealing with and their adsorption ability. In the experimental section it was investigated the tea waste utilization in order to eliminate copper ions from waste water. It has been tested mainly the effect of pH on the adsorption of copper onto tea waste and maximum possible adsorption capacity onto tea waste. The pH optimum for the sorption of cooper from solution onto tea waste was within range 5-6 and the maximum possible adsorption capacity 0,0336 mmol•g-1 was determined. The results indicate that the tea waste could be used as a suitable adsorbent for the purification of waste water, mainly due to good availability, low cost and good adsorption ability of heavy metals.

The floating islands technology for wastewater treatment
Kohut, Rafael ; Hyánková, Eva (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
Importance of proper water treatment is well described in the European Water Charter. However, considering incessant population growth and role of water as a key raw material in all industries and agriculture, we can say that its availability and quality is endangered. To improve the quality of water and water ecosystems, the strategy of renewal of wetlends is being presented as relevant. Except for natural wetlands there is also a variety of artificial ones, which are trying to simulate because of their treatment conditions. This is one of the main reasons why application of floating wetlands raises a great interest nowadays. In at least seventeen countries all around the world the surveys were conducted to define efficiency of this method for purifying of waters. Despite these efforts, the assesment of the reliable evaluations still remains a large research gap. The purpose of this thesis is to present and describe results of a month´s measurements of efficiency of usage of floating wetlands for refinig of wastewater stabilization pond of root zone wastewater treatment plant in the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic.
Solutions and variability of vertical filters
Roupec, Ladislav ; Hyánková, Eva (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with innovative technical solution of vertical trickle filter systems, which are categorized into the category of natural ways thow to clean water. The actual vertical filters for root cleaners are currently experiencing a boom thanks to the MPO project with the working title Biostream, within which are vertical root systems tested on root cleaner in the village of Kotenčice (involved in pilot conditions). The results show an increased removal of ammonia nitrogen and high efficiency in the elimination of organic pollution BSK5 and CHSKCr. However, the practice may in the future require even higher efficiency that can be solved by small technical innovations and modifications. In connection with the forced aeration of vertical filters is elaborated the methodological part of the thesis, the final result of the work is several regression equations using which it is possible to determine the input of oxygen into the system at a given input parameters (filter size, water flow, air flow, etc.). The results are very useful for a scientific branch because there is not so much available literature for this topic.
