Migrant women as active citizens

Diploma thesis tries to offer a new insight into migration and integration of migrant women living in Czech Republic by means of life-story telling of ten such women. By using this approach the author tries to deconstruct stereotypical understanding of migration as a threat or a security hazard for the accepting society, on the contrary she tries to picture migrant women and their life-stories as tales of people who consider Czech Republic their second home and who actively participate on its development. Citizenship is understood as a membership in society of which migrant women are also legitimate and active members. The thesis should contribute to building positive attitude towards migrant women in general and it also offers recommendations for the public as well as integration policy creators as to how migrant women can be reflected in context of migration.

Civic Engagement and the Migration Experience

This study analyzes the relationship between motivation for civic engagement, migration experience, and identity, in first generation migrants. It draws upon the idea that civic engagement is beneficial for democratic societies in general, and that it can also be a source of great support for migrants in the process of integration into a new environment. So far, very little attention has been paid to the civic engagement of migrants in the Czech Republic, especially from the point of view of migrants themselves. This qualitative study aims towards a better understanding of the connections between migration and civic engagement. Personal histories of civic engagement of active migrants are analyzed, with an emphasis placed on the roles migration experience and ethnic/national identity shifts play in the process of civic engagement.

Peer mentoring programs benefits in terms of civic engagement and social capital

The main goal this diploma thesis is to explore the influence of peer mentoring programs as a tool of community intervention for children and adolescents from the point of view of civic engagement and social capital. The influence is assessed to the recipients of mentoring programs care- to children and adolescents exposed to risk factors or risk environment. This thesis is secondary analysis of Mentoring programs evaluating research in mentoring programs Big Brother Big Sisters- Pět P in Czech republic, in-depth and longitudinal extraordinary study. In this study 7 mentoring couples were assessed for the time period of one year- in the beginning and one year after. Evaluation of strategic planning by addressing public in forum planning

This thesis focuses on communication of strategic planning of municipalities in the Czech Republic. Communication is viewed from the position of the authors of media messages. The author demonstrates firstly the importance of the level of information awareness as a prerequisite for citizens' participation in formulating public policies and places the issue of participation in the concept of governance. On the basis of media analysis the data from 1996 to 2014 and five main criteria, from which relies for further data interpretation in connection with the strategic plans of cities and municipalities, author identifies major trends in communicating the topic in the media. The main question for this thesis is: What is the experience with communication of strategic plans of municipalities and cities of the Czech Republic in the media? This question evokes another sub- questions, which in the context of media analysis will need to be answered. How are the strategic plans called in the media? How are they explained to the public? What other techniques of explanation of complex planning process can we engage? Civic engagement through the eyes of members of political parties youth wings

The theme of my thesis is "Civic engagement though the eyes of political parties youth wings." I chose three specific associations, which cover the classical political spectrum. The goal of the thesis is to discover what kind of relationship these young people have to civic engagement. Civic engagement is represented by the new type of engaged NGOs. I also wanted to know what was their motivation to join the youth wing and if their opinions about civic engagement corespond with the Party point of view. In the theoretical part I introduce concepts of political participation and civic engagemant connected with the third sector and political parties. In the empirical part is presented the analysis with the findings. I used qualitative research strategy and data were obtained mostly trom interviews. In the end the findings are summarized and connscted with the theoretical framework.

How to invite men? Project Patron - the case study of engaging men in the areas of civic, public and private life which needs their deeper participation Abstract The support of engagement of men in the areas of civic, private and public life which showing the lack of their involvement becomes a topic in the last decade on the level of EU and some national states. But there is just little social research focused on the practical ways how to support the engagement of men in these areas. This paper offers the view from perspective of the studies of civil society - which is especially focused on the motivations to volunteering - combined with the perspective of the studies of men and masculinities. The core of this paper is a case study of the project Patron in which the adult men creates friendly-based relationships with the young men from the institutional care and help them to manage the leaving of this care to the "real life". The aim of this research is analyze the motivation of these men which leads to their participation on this project - mainly in the relations to the experience of manhood and masculinity. The Involvement of Young Russian-Speaking Immigrants into Civil Society in Prague

Russian-speaking immigrant`s community in the Czech Republic is quite extensive and quite closed. A large proportion of this group includes university students whose civic engagement is an excellent indicator for assessing the level of integration into Czech society. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the young Russian-speaking immigrants participate in civil society in Prague and what potential obstacles to participation they have already had or may have. In addition, the large role is played by personal background and motivation of migrants. The history of the Russian migration in Czechoslovakia, integration theory and the theory of civic engagement are included in theoretical background. Design of the thesis is a qualitative research.

The Issue of Domestic Violence and Its Solutions in Practice from the Perspective of Public and Civil Sector in Hradec Kralove

The work is dedicated to solving the problem of domestic violence in Hradec Králové. The issue is seen from the practice in social work and provides insight into the stakeholders, namely the staff of the organizations or institutions of civil and public sector. The main focus is generally not only effective solution, but also specific assumptions success, and convenient tools, motivation and attitudes. Generally, all facts and factors affecting appropriate solution to the social problem in that region are examined. The approach of Hradec Králové appears to be an example of good practice, while the research seeks to clarify what is really involved. The view of the main involved actors, their motives and ways to engage themselves is also relevant. The first part describes the theoretical background, current approaches and solutions to institutional preconditions in terms of field research. The second part of the thesis based on research answers to research questions explains what exactly is behind the successful resolution of the issues. Social Engagement in Two North-Bohemian Villages

In the Czech Republic little attention has been given to the research of civil society in rural areas. One of the fundamental preconditions for the development of civil society is engagement of citizens. The aim of this work is to explore social engagement, which is an important part of civic engagement, in two villages. The research was conducted in the north of the Czech republic, in the specific area of the former Sudetenland. Promoting social engagement may be one of the factors influencing the development of the Czech countryside, which is struggling with a long- term depopulation. Through in-depth interviews and document analysis the study argues about what are the main factors for social engagement and how social engagement contributes to the development of social capital.
