Deep Book Recommendation
Gráca, Martin ; Beran, Vítězslav (referee) ; Hradiš, Michal (advisor)
This thesis deals with the field of Recommendation systems using Deep Neural Networks and their use in book recommendation. There are the main traditional recommender systems analysed and their representations are summarized, as well as systems with more advancec techniques based on machine learning.. The core of the thesis is the use of convolutional neural networks for natural language processing and the creation of a book recommendation system. Suggested system make recommendation based on user data, including user reviews and book data, including full texts.

Deep Book Recommendation
Gráca, Martin ; Kolář, Martin (referee) ; Hradiš, Michal (advisor)
This thesis deals with the field of recommendation systems using deep neural networks and their use in book recommendation. There are the main traditional recommender systems analysed and their representations are summarized, as well as systems with more advanced techniques based on machine learning. The core of the thesis is to use convolutional neural networks for natural language processing and create a hybrid book recommendation system. Suggested system includes matrix factorization and make recommendation based on user ratings and book metadata, including texts descriptions. I designed two models, one with bag-of-words technique and one with convolutional neural network. Both of them defeat baseline methods. On the created data set, that was created from the Goodreads, model with CNN beats model with BOW.

Intergenerational effects on the formation of reading in an international comparison
Stiborová, Kateřina ; Šafr, Jiří (advisor) ; Černý, Karel (referee)
5 ABSTRACT This diploma thesis deals with the topic of reading. In the process of examining the development of an individual for reading, it is necessary to take into account the effects of primary socialization taking place in the family environment. The aim of the diploma thesis is to find out how is readership affected by the family environment and how is passed between generations (intergenerational transmission). It is also a goal to find out whether and how readership vary across selected European countries (including Czech Republic) in relation to these factors. The effect of the family environment on adult reading is studied through parent education and aspects of the so-called pro-reader climate. The pro-reader climate in the family helps communicate a person's relationship to books and reading in his early childhood and affects his future life. A family environment that supports reading habits is reflected in childhood through parent-child interaction (reading, communicating about the content being read), the availability of books at home, and the reading of parents that provide a background for reading. The existence of a relationship between reading and family environment in the intergenerational and internationally comparative perspective is examined through secondary analysis of two...

Printed Books vs eBooks: What, Why and How Does Generation Y Read?
Nykl, Jan ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The aim of the thesis 'Printed Books vs. eBooks: What, Why and How Does Generation Y Read?' is to uncover what motivates a group of young people, specifically twenty students attending universities based in Prague, to choose either printed or electronic books. Furthermore, while using the qualitative method of semi-structured interview it was also the aim of this thesis not only to describe and analyse how important are the social aspects of books as well as the ways of acquiring them, but similarly to get a better understanding of how Generation Y perceives books. For this reason the conducted research could be beneficial to an academic area of interest, while correspondingly valuable for publishers, bookshops or e-reader manufacturers and their marketing strategies. Practical research is built upon a relevant theoretical basis: history of reading, characterization of printed and electronic books, together with a Czech book market summary and an introduction of Generation Y. In addition, the fourth chapter presents methods used when conducting the research, particularly Grounded Theory. However, the results of this research and their interpretations are presented in the final chapter along with respondents' descriptions, research goals and the course of interviews. In conclusion, research limits...
