Multi-function Cultural Centre "Creative City" in Brno
Iermolovych, Ganna ; Novák, Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor)
The master degree project presents design of conversion and extension of an old former prison situated between the streets Cejl, Soundni and Bratislavska for cultural, commercial and manufacturing purposes and forming multifunctional cultural center. The proposal consists of the conversion of two floors of existing building on the street Soudni, demolition of additional building on the street Bratislavska, while the additional building on street Cejl is belonging to other owner and will remain in existing status. Before the new building it is created a small square, that connects new and old building and the surroundings. Main goal is to create center for “creative” specialization, in which will be placed as working (studio, offices, conference hall) and performing spaces, but there also will be residential part (hostel and renting flats). Main purpose – create interesting space for collaboration of creative professions and to create the new cultural center.
The Rehabilitation of the historical center and adjacent surroundings of Kyjov with a focus on the public space
Kratochvilová, Jana ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the construction and activation of the territory in connection with the historical center of Kyjov. Part of the proposal was to work with an existing urban brownfield and an extensive park, which accounts for almost half the area under consideration. The goal, as I set out in my work, is to activate the territory and design an urban sprawl with a suitable functional structure. The proposed design respects the context and character of the site in a modern and sustainable manner. The principles followed in my work are based on the current urban and city-forming rules. I have put an emphasis on the human scale, the priority of pedestrians over traffic, and especially the shortcomings and needs in the territory that arise from the analysis. The draft concept is based on the permeability and interconnection of the individual parts of the city, the insertion of a new public space and the completion of the city block. The new urban sprawl clearly defines the street, completes the boundaries and makes the most of the area on the released land. The newly designed buildings are residential and multi-functional houses with active parterres. Part of the proposal is the revitalization of the city park, which explores its hidden potential. The basic step is to remove obstacles in the permeability of the park and to highlight its strengths, such as the flowing river Kyjovka, healthy large trees and the size of the park itself.
Guilt - the view of the theological ethics
Novák, Robert ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Mašek, Vojtěch (referee)
This work examines from various points of view the role and signifikance of guilt within the history of humankind and a man, shows the traps and obstacles during its processing as well as the destructive consequences of the unprocessed guilt in life of every culpable human being and his/her relations with other people and the God. The first part is focused on its possible understanding and division within the framework of a certain philosophical thinking, first of all in the horizontal level of human relations. After the rational reflection of the subject of guilt and its systematical division within the philosophical thoughts follows up the vertical view of the faith upon the guilt as a sin in contributions of catholic theologists and the tradition of Magisterium in the following chapter. The third section, using a method of biblical exegesis, shows its effect and chances to overcome it with a help of God within the life stories of selected biblical characters of The Old and The New Testament. The last part of the work pays attention to the paradox of a "felix culpa" and the chances, that are offered to the culprits in the specific environment of a prison. The obtained knowledge is being confronted with the personal life experience of the author, who is dealing with his own guilt and a fatal...
Dissent after 1989. The use of Pierre Bourdieu's theory of habitus change on the example of selected post-dissent organizations
Benetková, Eva ; Maslowski, Nicolas (advisor) ; Německý, Marek (referee)
The thesis of Dissent after 1989. The use of Pierre Bourdieu's theory of habitus change on the example of selected post-dissent organizations deals with the topic of dissent after 1989 and his subsequent life and influence in the Czech society after 1989. The theme of the post-dissent is conceived through a qualitative the research of organizations whose activity is based on the legacy of dissent or refers to its activities. With the help of the research design of instrumental case studies, the following organizations are organized: Charter 77 Foundation, Václav Havel Library, Babylon, Libri prohibiti. The monitored themes are the development of the organization's relationship towards disentanglement, the dissent reflection in the current activities of the organization, and how the organization communicates these themes towards the public. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the issues of dissent and post-dissent, which are further embedded in the post-communist transition and presentation of the methodology of qualitative studies. In the second part of the case studies of the above mentioned organizations. I outline their focus and development towards dissent. The last part is an analysis of this development through the theoretical concepts of habitus change of Pierre Bourdieu. The aim is...
Blending and Debledning Data in the Daily Routine of a University Library
Stille, Wolfgang
In libraries, there is something like a war of opinions about library software in the last couple of years: some (in particular library management) prefer the licensing of commercial software products with strict business models, others (n particular library IT) participate in community driven open source solutions. Probably, the truth lies somewhere in between, which means that standards, interfaces, and interoperability play a more and more imortant role in the business of library IT, and thus have to be open. At the same time, monolithic commercial software solutions implying vendor lock-ins emerge, promising all-in-one one-stop-shop solutions, obstructing an objective debate between library management and IT staff. The talk intends to give some experiental report on the past, tries to answer questions and reasons of the present, and gives some vision (and hopefully discussion) on the future of library IT.

From XML to MARC: RDF Behind the Scenes
Nicolas, Yann
We collect heterogeneous metadata packages from various publishers. Although all of them are in XML, they vary a lot in terms of vocabulary, structure, granularity, precision, and accuracy. It is quite a challenge to cope with this jungle and recycling it to meet the needs of the Sudoc, the French academic union cataloguing system. How to integrate and enrich these metadata? How to integrate them in order to process them in a regular way, not through ad hoc processes? How to integrate them with specific or generic controlled vocabularies ? How to enrich them with author identifiers, for instance? RDF looks like the ideal solution for integration and enrichment. Metadata are stored in the Virtuoso RDF database and processed through a workflow steered by the Oracle DB. We will illustrate this generic solution with Oxford UP metadata: ONIX records for printed books and KBART package description for ebooks. So. A relational database as glue and pipeline engine… RDF as internal model… MARC as output …. Quite weird… Was this abstract written by an ELAG-specific random text generator?

MUSEUM OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN BRNO
Střeštíková, Vendula ; Zemánek, Václav (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on the revitalization of the dilapidated area of the former textile factory in Brno, Obřany. Areal is located in the city's peripheral parts between Maloměřice and Obřany. The location of the areal creates a strategic potential for creating a closer relationship between the central part of the city and its peripheries which allows urban activities spread to the distant area. The main target of the paper was to promote the relationship between the island and the water element - the river which brings a unique composition for the creation of a new central point of the urban part, which in Obřany currently lacking. The main focus of the project was to support the local potential by expanding the range of urban activities and recreational opportunities with respect for industrial heritage of Brno. It was necessary to made a radical interventions for island revitalization. Cleaning the island from inappropriate, structural, statically or architecturally inadequate buildings and re-opening the space for public was needed. The former spinning factory was therefore a key element of the entire project. It is due to its monumental qualities predestined to place the main and dominant function which after a previous analysis and survey was allocated to the textile museum. As the opposite of this huge structure there were designed a free and grassy area of the park which has been cleaned from the old unsatisfactory objects. The preserved buildings of the former textile factories were individually revitalized and designed with new suitable functions.
Brewery in city – conversion of indrustrial area
Balciarová, Jana ; Polakovič, Štefan (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The main aim of the work is the conversion of the non-functional industrial site of the former canning factory and re-engagement of unused and unattractive territory into life city cycle - new life - new energy. The conversion consists of restoring a former canning factory building to the city brewery and restoring a former administrative building to a kindergarten. The brewery is complemented by services such as a beer bath, a beer museum, a beer restaurant and a hotel. The aim of the brewery is to revive the tradition of brewing in the region and to restore its industrial and cultural heritage. To connect it with the city not only physically but also socially, while supporting the untapped potential of tourism development. The region has long been struggling with a shortage of nursery schools. The original administrative building from 1902, which is currently almost unused and depreciated, has a favorable location in terms of availability and environment for primary education of children - connection with the park and the football field, which is also closely cooperating with kindergartens. The concept supports and benefits from the urban design of the city's revitalization of the adjacent sports and recreation zone, which is already under way. I see the site conversion as a stage of completing this section of the city.
