The use of human-oriented approaches in the elderly losing communication skills

My bachelor thesis is aimed on a comparison of two man-oriented approches. It is a psychobiographic model of care according to professor Böhm and reminescence. The intention is to compare the possible use of these models from the view of the workers in the direct daily care in senior houses for clients who are gradually loosing their communication skills. For the comparison, I used a semi-structured interview as a tool of qualitative method. The primary source of information was intently selected respondents from a specific facility, i.e. senior house.
Education and therapy for seniors in Prague

My Bachelor Thesis deals with the education and therapy of seniors in Prague. I dedicate the first chapter to the basic terms (such as senior, old age, education, therapy etc.). The second chapter focuses on the third age, or early old age, when old people are still independent. The third chapter is about seniors of fourth age, which is the period of real old age. The fourth chapter treats the University of the Third Age. Here I deal mainly with positive influences and barriers which seniors might encounter, when they decide to study. In the fifth chapter I describe selected therapies (Reminiscence Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, memory training…). In the practical part of my thesis I write about chosen institutions, that is The University of Lifelong Education and the old people's home in 7, Sámova, Prague. I interviewed a senior who goes to the University of the Third Age. The interview is focused on his motivation to study and on the benefits he got from his studies. Further, I have carried out a therapy focused on reminiscence and memory training in the chosen old people's home. Using of Psychobiographical model of care when working with seniors

My dissertation is focused on usage of psychobiographical model of care during working with seniors. The first part of my dissertation is focused on theories, where I explain things such as old age and its age borders, changes in old age and senior's needs, dementia and its forms. We can also find here informations about senior services, social workers and ethic codex. Besides that, my dissertation contains informations about psychobiographical model and everything that is related to it. Second part of my dissertation is focud on concrete usage of the model in Senior House Háje and Senior House Palata for people with eyes dissorder. The selected methods of social work with clients self - non sufficient in health care facilities

The main goal of the thesis entitled "The selected methods of social work with clients self-non sufficient in health care facilities" was to describe and to analyze methods used in activation of the elderly suffering from dementia. It draws a comparison of different settings and explores workers's attitude to the methods of activation. The text of the thesis was mapped out into five chapters. The first chapter was set into the context of old age and ageing. The second chapter is concerned with the issues of self-sufficiency and dependency of old age and other related issues. The topic of the third chapter is old age in relation with memory. It defines memory and memory disorders in the elderly suffering from dementia. The fourth chapter is crucial and gives an idea of non-pharmacological and other possible activities which are eligible for application in practice and are intended to reduce cognitive disorders of cognitive functions and behavior disorders. The theoretical part enters into research carried out in four facilities which care for clients with dementia. Utilization of reminiscence in terms of clients' activation in home for the elderly

Diploma thesis "Utilization of reminiscence in terms of clients' activation in home for the elderly" deals with remembering and its use for working in homes for the elderly. It defines reminiscence, group reminiscence in particular, describing its benefits and possibilities for application. Object of this work is to present reminiscence from the view of reminiscence assistant, record development of reminiscence group and outline some practical recommendation for the work. Theoretical part is devoted to the problems of old age, aging, description of homes for elderly and associated topics. It is focused on reminiscence, defining its theoretical basis and critical founds. It also deals with group reminiscence and the basic principles of its application. Practical part is focused on the activity of a concrete reminiscence group describing its development and details of individual reminiscence meetings including arisen situations. Based on practical example it provides data concerning progress of the reminiscence group and its functioning from the view of a reminiscence assistant. In the conclusion concise practical recommendation for working with reminiscence group are presented.
The Activation Programms for Seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou.

This bachelor thesis is aimed to the stimulating activities for seniors. Based on the Act No. 108/2006 Collection, On social services the stimulating activities belong among the basic activities when providing social services. The theoretical part consists of eight basic chapters. The first one outlines the characteristics of aging and old age. It is followed by social work with seniors because the whole thesis is engaged just in the seniors´ population. The third section contains the senior´s active life, its importance and the description of the active life in social services used by seniors. The left sections are engaged in the individual stimulating activities, such as motion activities, brainstorming, musical and art therapies. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to map the stimulating activities for the seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The partial aim is to find out the benefit of the stimulating activities for the seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou from the seniors´ point of view. There are two research questions in the connection with the thesis aims. The main research question is: What kind of stimulating activities for seniors are provided in Rychnov nad Kněžnou? The partial research question finds out what is the benefit of the stimulating activities for the seniors from the seniors´ point of view. For practical section of bachelor thesis I have chosen the quality research. I have used the questioning method and the technique of the semi-controlled dialoque, the secondary analysis of data, and the method of make the clusters. The selected group had 7 clients of the daily and weekly care centre of Parish charity in Rychnov nad Kněžnou where the research has been realized. The respondents have been chosen using the purpose-quota choice. The results are divided into two sections based on the research questions. The first section is concerned the data analysis of the organizations providing the stimulating activities for the seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The second section contains the respondents´ subjective opinions in the stimulating activities offered by the Parish charity in Rychnov nad Kněžnou within the daily and weekly care centre for seniors. The results are divided into the sections based on stimulating. The research has shown the stimulating activities for seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou are offered by two organizations ? Social services of the town Rychnov nad Kněžnou and the Parish charity in the same town. The stimulating activities provided with the seniors are as follows: motion activities, brainstorming, reminiscences, musical and art therapies, lectures, playing games, hobby clubs, learning a foreign language, social and cultural events. It results from the research realized using the dialogue with the clients of the Parish charity in Rychnov nad Kněžnou that the most visited activity are motion activities with brainstorming in which all the questioned people participate. For the question where they can see the contribution to train their memory, they answered as follows: they train their memory, they are in the contact with the others, they learn new information and so they fulfill their leisure time or this activity is a hobby of theirs. They feel training their bodies due to the motion activities. The reminiscences have proved to be a favourite activity for them, too. The reason is they like remembering the years they have lived. The musical and art therapies have shown to be less popular activities. The gained knowledge of this bachelor thesis will have been possible to use as the source of information about the stimulating activities for the seniors in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The thesis will be used as the feedback for the facilities where the research has been realized.
The value and use of member?s memories due to providing on-site social services for seniors in Regional charity Strakonice

The thesis deals with the importance and possibilities of using memories in social services with seniors. Thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part contains the theoretical knowledge of the senior age, the value of memories in social services with seniors and methods of social services that are focused on the use of memories. The second part targets on the qualitative research of the problem in a specific organization aimed at providing the field of social services for the seniors, the Regional Charity Strakonice, in nursing service and personal assistance. The research is focused on the analysis of the importance of memories in terms of employees and users in providing on-site social services, evaluation methods of work with memories and to consider options for further use of methods of work with the memories in this organization.
Memory training and reminiscent in the House for seniors St.Jiří in Pilsen

In the diploma work named Memory and Reminiscence Training and in Domov sv. Jiří in Plzeň I deal with the above mentioned topic in theory and practice. The main aim of the work is to describe the aims, methods and techniques of the memory and reminiscence training by the seniors in the retirement home sv. Jiří. The partial objective is to state the benefits of the memory and reminiscence training from the point of view of the workers and residents of the retirement home. In the theoretical part I specify the issue of ageing and the old age and the issue of the memory and its components. Further to this part there is a description of the memory training and practical illustrations of the memory training and individual exercises. In the reminiscence part I deal with the specification of this term, the reminiscence therapy, the methods that support reminiscence and reminiscence boxes. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the failures in cognitive functions. In the practical part I give a description of the qualitative research in the retirement home of sv. Jiří where I carried out a course of the memory and reminiscence training within 15 meetings with the home residents. The research sample consisted of 10 seniors and 10 workers. For the research I used the half-guided dialogue method and the participant observation, and the research questions comprised of identifications questions, questions on memory training and questions on reminiscence. In the methodology part I describe the memory training methods, the course realization and the research sample. I also deal with the description of the retirement home of sv. Jiří and its establisher Městská charita Plzeň. As the outcomes of the qualitative research there are the case studies based on the carried out dialogues and the participant observation. In the discussion I comapare the achieved results of the research with the theory. I also describe my experience from the course of the memory and reminiscence training and its individual meetings with the seniors, I assess the opinions of the workers and the benefit of the memory and reminiscence training. In the conclusion I deal with the assessment of the whole work, especially its aim, and the benefits of the memory and reminiscence training in the retirement home of sv. Jiří in Plzeň.
