Slang of Members of Česká tábornická unie, z.s.

This thesis deals with the specific speech of the members of Česká tábornická unie, z.s. - non-governmental non-profit Czech organization dedicated to working with children and developing camping skills. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on defining the national language and its units and semi-units, especially on defining slang, including possible ways of creating slang words. One chapter is devoted to the organization itself, namely its symbolism, history, structure and current activities. The practical part analyses the materials obtained through a questionnaire survey.

Twirling as a special branch of sports slang

The topic of this master thesis is the analysis of language aspects of the group of people involved in the sport of baton twirling. In the theoretical part, the author introduces this type of sports dance, which is not very popular in the Czech Republic and is not in the public consciousness. The attention is paid mainly to the sociolects to which slangs are traditionally assigned. The material basis for this thesis is a partial corpus of slangisms, which was compiled on the basis of the author's own experience, observations and interviews with professional and amateur athletes and coaches (sports journalists and fans are out of focus). The excerpted material is subjected to a thorough analysis, both in terms of semantics, as well as word formation and etymology. The thesis also includes a dictionary of twirling slangisms, an excerpt from the competition rules and scoresheets of teachers. The aim of this thesis is to capture and describe the current state of twirling slang and thus contribute to the study of non standard Czech language.

The motivation for the use of metaphor in bird names

This thesis aims to explore the possible reasons that motivate speakers to use metaphors in the naming units of natural organisms. The work deals with various approaches to the concept of metaphor, especially the concept of image metaphors defined by Lakoff (1992). This is followed by the description of onomasiology and onomasiological word formation models applied in the analysis. For the work, a corpus of metaphorical bird names was created. The names were sorted by the types of salient features that the metaphors express. The subsequent analysis takes place within these categories. In evaluating the motivation for the use of metaphor in the naming units, I adopted the classification suggested in Kos (2019), which I supplement with the newly observed trends. The resulting data are quantified and interpreted.

Slang in Gastronomy in Selected Parts of Czech Republic

This Bachelor thesis deals with slang in the branch of gastronomy. The introduction sets out the objectives and methods. Hypotheses are also established. The theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis focuses on the interpretation of slang in general terms, an introduction to the interpretations of some Czech linguists and the current lexicographic form of the dictionary. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of collected data, which was obtained by questionnaire and guided interview. The slang expression is examined mainly according to the method of creation. At the end of the work, the hypotheses established in the introductory part are confirmed or refuted.

Czech Reality in Chinese Language of the Newsletter of Chinese Living in the Czech Republic (Jiéhuá tōngxùn)

This thesis is focused on Czech realia in Chinese language in a magazine called Newsletter of the Chinese Living in the Czech Republic Jiéhuá tōngxùn 捷华通讯. The analysis of the collected material is introduced by chapters about Chinese lexicon, word- formation and loan-words. Material referring to the Czech realia from selected issues of the magazine is divided into theme groups. Material is analyzed and compared with the common Chinese lexical system. Material includes not only loan-words, but also common Chinese words, which are used for describing Czech realia. At the end of the thesis, there are described some tendencies in terming Czech realia. Collected material is in the attachment of this thesis and could be used as a dictionary. Formation and use of agentiv nouns in contemporary czech and polish language

This thesis focusses on the issue of feminine gender agentive nouns formation and use in contemporary Polish, with respect to analogical phenomena in Czech. The theoretical part of the thesis sketches the form and the manner of derivation of the feminine counterparts of agentive nouns, subsequently analysing their socio- political implications (the opposition between masculine and feminine gender, various views concerning the asymmetry in their usage). In contemporary Polish, two antagonistic trends can be delineated, one tabooing and blocking the derived forms, the other, on the contrary, upholding and promoting them. In general, feminine forms are widely used for designations of jobs with lower social prestige; conversely, with respect to professions and honorifics viewed as prestigious, feminization is sparse, and, outside the feminist coterie, viewed as unnatural, inappropriate, even belittling. There are also quite a few nouns that undergo derivation only selectively. This state of affairs is evaluated as substantially different from that in Czech, a language in which feminization is common and normally unmarked. The suffix -bile in present-day Italian and its equivalents in a parallel corpus

This thesis deals with functional equivalents of Italian adjectives with the suffix -bile in present-day Italian based on the Czech-Italian parallel linguistic corpus InterCorp. In the opening theoretical part the main objective of the thesis is introduced - a comparison of the Czech suffix -telný with the Italian suffix -bile. In the next chapters the thesis focuses on corpus material characteristics - on frequency list - from qualitative and quantitative aspects and on Czech equivalents' typology. The last part concentrates on statistical evaluation of Czech translation solutions, on the individual percentage representation of Czech equivalents' variants and on general trends while translating these adjectives with the suffix -bile into Czech.
