The menstrual cycle from the perspective of women
MAURICOVÁ, Michaela
This bachelor thesis deals with women's awareness in the field of menstrual cycle. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the anatomy of female genitals, the physiology of the menstrual cycle, it also mentions the disorders of the menstrual cycle. Last but not least, it solves period supplies and related hygiene and menstrual poverty. The theoretical part also mentions the impact of the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on a woman's menstrual cycle and the role of a midwife in education. Two goals have been set for the practical part. The first goal was to find out what information women have about the menstrual cycle. The second goal was to map if women are informed about menstruation by a midwife. The research survey has been conducted on the basis of a questionnaire survey. The self-designed questionnaire consisted of closed and semi-closed questions. The Mann-Whitney test for two independent samples and the two relative frequency agreement tests have been used to evaluate the hypotheses. The research group consisted of 1 499 respondents. Respondents were divided intocategories according to age 18-25, 26-35, 36-45, 46-60 and 61 and over. The questionnaire was shared on the social network Facebook. Women aged 18-25 had the largest proportion of the total number of respondents. Related to the above objectives, the hypotheses have been set this way: H1: Women aged 18-35 are more informed about menstruation than women aged 36 and over. H2: Women aged 18-35 had more information from their mothers at the onset menstruation than women aged 36 and over. H3: Women get information about menstruation from the Internet rather than from a midwife. The research survey has found out that respondents obtained information about menstruation mainly from their mothers. 1 169 (77.9 %) of all women interviewed received information from their mothers, who rated information mainly as sufficient (31.4 %; 470 answers) or as average (22 %; 330 answers). Another 712 (47.4 %) women got information from the Internet and 602 (40.2 %) from school. 3.7% of women surveyed (56 women) stated that no one provided them with any information. Only 26 (1.7 %) women received information from the midwife. The research has also shown that women aged 18-35 have more knowledge of menstruation than women aged 36 and over. Regarding information from mothers, women aged 18-35 had more information from mothers at the start of menstruation thanwomen aged 36 and over. The proportion of women who mentioned the internet as a source of information is greater than the proportion of women who mentioned a midwife. Research has shown that women are informed about menstrual cycle. However, it is important to midwives to use sufficiently their competencies.
The influence of diet on the absence and recovery of the menstrual cycle
MARTINÁSKOVÁ, Markéta
The aim of my Bachelors thesis was to find out what effect diet has on menstrual cycle loss and what effect diet has on menstrual cycle repair. Eating disorders, malnutrition, alternative diets, low body fat, hormonal contraceptives, stress, reduced energy intake and excessive physical activity can have a negative impact on the menstrual system. One of the most common forms of secondary amenorrhea is functional hypothalamic amenorrhea. Low level of estrogen occur, which has a negative effect not only on the reproductive system of women, but also on their overall health. Secondary amenorrhea that lasts 6 months or more results in thinning of the bones (osteoporosis) in postmenopausal age. Early therapy is necessary for the proper function of the female reproductive system. In the practical part, I evaluated a questionnaire of my own design and analyzed the diet records from respondents who have faced or are facing loss of menstrual cycle. The results of my questionnaire investigation confirm the negative impact of the above mentioned factors on menstruation. More than half of the women interviewed have experience of eating disorders. Almost 1/3 of the women are on a reduction diet. The daily energy intake of some of the respondents is below 1500 kcal. The vast majority of the women participate regularly in sports. More than 1/2 of the women experience frequent fatigue, stress and were facing difficult life situation at the time of loss of menstruation. Only less than 1/4 of the respondents use hormonal contraceptives or have an IUD in place. According to the questionnaire survey, more than half of gynaecologists do not deal with loss of menstrual cycle. After evaluating individual diets, it is clear that loss of menstrual periods occurs with low energy intake. By increasing energy intake, menstruation returns.

Effects of hormonal contraceptives on women's health and fertility
HAVLUJOVÁ, Anna
The bachelor thesis Effect of hormonal contraception on women's health and fertility is dealing with women's knowledge about hormonal contraception, about its effects and its risks and at the same time finds out, from where women take information about hormonal contraception most often. Thesis is divided to theoretical and practical part. In theoretical part is described a history of contraception, phase of the hormonal cycle, which is related to the usage of hormonal contraception and different kinds of contraception including description of advantages and disadvantages based on each types. The individual types of non-hormonal and hormonal contraceptions are described here including their benefits and risks based on their usage. At the end of the theoretical part is added a chapter on the education of women about hormonal contraception by midwives. In the practical part is qualitative research, which consisted from 12 interviews. There is described woman's awareness about benefits and risks, which usage of hormonal contraception represents. Research finds out sources, from which women most often derive their information about homornal contraception. The main point of the thesis is to find out woman's awareness about benefits and risks connected with usage of hormonal contraception, which can affect their health, but also can have negative impact on fertility. The results of research pointed out an insufficient awareness about function of hormonal contraception and poor knowledge in the area of using hormonal contraception. Only two women were able to state serious risk of thrombosis occurence. The knowledge about hormonal contraception were basic and disparate. Women don't use all of available sources of informations. They usually rely on informations from their gynecologist and from closest surroundings. Superficial knowledge is enough for most, but they do not deal with them more in depth. It is necessary to focus more on education on this topic in order for women to not look only on the benefits, but to mainly think about risks, which, hormonal contraception represents and may affect their planned pregnancy in the future. It would be appropriate to focus on women education already in the schools and later in gynecologist's office, where they could apply and pass on their knowledge of a midwife.
Physiotherapy in women with dysmenorrhea
POLENOVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor thesis deals with the reduction or even elimination of pain or any other discomfort connected with menstruation while using physiotherapeutic methods. The aim of this thesis is to describe frequent functional disorders of the locomotor system for women suffering from dysmenorrhea. The theoretical part also includes information about anatomy and physiology of deep stabilizing system and female reproductive system. The second aim of this thesis - to create a workout plan for the patients - was achieved based on the functional disorders in every patient during initial kinesiology analysis. Women performed at home the suggested exercise for five months. An appointment was arranged with each patient once in two weeks. The patients regularly got new exercises from the workout plan and were checked out during these appointments. At the end of the research a final kinesiology analysis was performed, and it was compared with the information gathered during the initial kinesiology analysis. These differences are mentioned later in discussion, together with comparison of all information acquired during the research including the sources used. All women subjectively noticed lower intensity of menstrual pain at the end of the research. Their assessments differ. This thesis can serve physiotherapists but also the public, mainly women suffering regularly with menstrual pain. It can be an option of solution of their problem in a different point of view than pharmacological.
Morphological and behavioural changes during menstrual cycle in catarrhine primates
Molnárová, Kristýna ; Havlíček, Jan (advisor) ; Másílková, Michaela (referee)
Females of Old World monkeys and apes (Catarrhini) exhibit a menstrual cycle, during which changes in skin colouration and/or sexual swellings can be observed in some species, located mainly in the anogenital region and around the ischial callosities, but also on the chest, abdomen or face. These morphological changes can be compared with changing hormone levels and also the way males respond to them, which is reflected in the degree of visual attractiveness. The odour of females may also be attractive to males, and with changes in the odour over the cycle, males could assess the reproductive status of females based on olfactory inspection. Males may also assess female readiness to mate through behavioural changes, which include various proceptive displays such as different gestures, facial expressions, vocalizations and the presentation of morphological changes, among others. The aim of this thesis is to summarize and critically review the available literature dealing with morphological and behavioural changes during the menstrual cycle in females of Old World monkeys and apes. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the possible function of these cyclical changes, such as those related to male competition, increased paternal care and reduced risk of infanticide. Furthermore, hypotheses...

Hlaváčová, Tereza ; Červinka, Pavel (advisor) ; Feher, Jan (referee)
Title: Stress fractures in endurance runners and their causes Objectives: The objective of this bachelor thesis is to identify possible corelation between stress fractures of Czech female endurance runners and their menstrual cycle irregularities, changes in training intensity, reduced energetic intake as well as changes in body regeneration. Methods: Qualitative research was carried out using the survey method with means of non-standardised, anonymous questionnaire. The results were further processed and evaluated using MS Word and MS Excel applications. Results: The results of the research led to the conclusion that a corelation can be detected between stress fractures of female endurance runners and their menstrual cycle irregularities, changes in training intensity, reduced energetic intake and impaired regeneration. The highest degree of co- occurrence was observed with increased training intensity. The next most common connection to stress fractures was found with menstrual cycle irregularities, followed by changes in body regenerations and decreased energy intake. Keywords: Endurance running, female runner, stress fracture, menstrual cycle, the female athlete triad
The influence of the menstrual cycle on the track and field athletic performance of top athletes
Musilová, Eva ; Kaplan, Aleš (advisor) ; Vindušková, Jitka (referee)
Title: The influence of the menstrual cycle on the track and field athletic performance of top athletes Objectives: The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is based on information gathered by the study of foreign and domestic sources to describe whether and to what extent the menstrual cycle and its individual phases affect the athletic performance of top athletes in training and competition. The secondary goal is to de-taboo the issue, to offer not only female athletes and their coaches ways to make the most of the natural cyclicality of female athletes, to draw attention to serious health complications resulting from insufficient erudition about the issue. Methods: An overview study based on a search of foreign language and domestic articles and monographs dealing with the issue of the menstrual cycle in top athletics, resp. in elite sports for the period 1991-2022. Results: Based on a survey study of a total of 22 foreign-language and 57 Czech sources, it can be stated that we encounter more specific issues of the menstrual cycle in women's elite sports in foreign-language literature than in domestic. Foreign authors come up with more controversial hypotheses and embark on more controversial research, the results of which are often very surprising. On the other hand, Czech-speaking authors...
