Batistová, Anna ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Orság, Petr (referee) ; Večeřa, Pavel (referee)
The dissertation A Cultural Journalism in London Exile Periodicals during the Second World War approaches a hitherto unexplored topic of literary and journalistic work of Czechoslovak writers and journalists in London in the years 1939-1945. The London exile periodicals became a free publication platform for Czechoslovak refugees. At first, cultural journalism began to appear in the cultural sections of London exile newspapers published in the Czech language Čechoslovák [Czechoslovak] and Mladé Československo [Young Czechoslovakia], however, the most important work appeared in cultural magazines after 1941; it was the literary magazine Obzor [Horizon], the cyclostyled monthly Kulturní zápisník [Cultural Notebook] and the English-language quarterly magazine Review. The research of all available issues of these three cultural periodicals between the years 1941-1945 consists (apart from a quantitative overview of authors) primarily of a qualitative analysis of the most important topics that were written about. Finally, the dissertation presents some of the important journalistic and literary personalities in London's cultural magazines.
