Stereotyping of Africa by pupils of Prague grammar schools
Kofroňová, Jana ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Frajer, Václav (referee)
The stereotyping of Africa has recently resonated not only in scientific circles, but is slowly making its way into the wider public consciousness. As Africa's population grows, the continent's importance on the global stage will gradually increase. It is time to realise how much our perceptions are influenced by entrenched stereotypes and to recognise what Africa is really like. This bachelor thesis focuses on the stereotyping of Africa by pupils in Prague grammar schools. In the theoretical part, it discusses the issue of stereotyping and factors that affect it. A specific attention is paid to the topic of stereotyping Africa, emphasizing the differences between experienced ideas about Africa and reality. The thesis has two research questions: to identify the most common stereotypes of Africa and to test the importance of their underlying factors. Through a combination of a survey within pupils and interviews with their teachers, the necessary data was collected. Using a categorisation of terms used by pupils in relation to Africa, three main groups of stereotypes were identified: wildlife, poor Africa, and primitive and underdeveloped Africa. To describe Africans, pupils used words such as illiterate, poor, or negroid. The research showed that all the factors studied contribute to the degree of...
Spatio-temporal activity of African ungulates at water sources in Mogalakwena River Reserve, South Africa
Homoláč, David ; Hořák, David (advisor) ; Bennitt, Emily (referee)
The large mammals of African savannah are a well-studied group of animals, but few studies focus on the temporal, circadian activity of this group of mammals. Such studies either use problematic methods of data collection (webcams, direct observations) or have been conducted in national parks or large reserves, where movement of the animals is not limited with anthropogenic structures. In such sites, the community of large mammals is usually complete, including the guild of large carnivores. Thus, small, fenced off reserves without a complete community of large mammals are understudied. Therefore, this work focuses on the spatio-temporal activity of ungulates at water sources in the Mogalakwena River Reserve in South Africa, which is an example of a reserve without large predators except the leopard (Panthera pardus). I used camera traps to assess the activity of ungulates, which I placed alongside the Mogalakwena River and at the water holes. With the help of artificial intelligence, I classified the photos to the level of activity of each species. I then tested this activity over space (type of water source) and against biotic and abiotic factors. The activity of ungulates at water sources is influenced by the maximum daily temperature, as the activity shifts to the evening hours during higher...

Havlík, Darina ; Kokeš, Václav (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
The proposal project is designing the development plan of the ZOO in Dvur Kralove nad Labem, as has designed a new exhibition of new lions, hyenas, birds of prey, the African desert and the object of refreshments for visitors. Architectural study addresses the design of objects - pavilions exposure for lions, hyenas, a pavilion with an aviary for birds of prey - bird world, the African pavilion terrarium desert and finally building with a cafe and toilets for the visitors of the ZOO. The proposed approach also runs the individual pavilions, then runs for the lions and hyenas and near runs in the African desert ungulates and seasonal runs. The proposed solution recognizes the zoo premises as a place for keeping large animal species composition, education of visitors, as the meeting place of rest and relaxation. The solution takes into account the complex relationships and interactions between exposures in a given area, not only in terms of architectural and aesthetic approach to the complex, but also in terms of operating and zoological. The zoo is a park with specific exposure to live with a balanced human rights - a visitor to one side and kept the animal on the other.  The proposed solution to the Zoo is sensitive to the surrounding landscape, the existing urban and architectural design and space requirements for any award.  From an operational point of view, the proposal accepted by all the requirements of the future. Areas and facilities for public service facilities, paddocks and animal quarters are each precisely defined and strictly separated geographically and operationally. Are the optimal conditions for the movement of animals between quarters and corral. The proposed solution is very rich in variety of areas, which in addition to the versatility of targeted animals, reflected in the richness of flora and fauna and thus contributing to environmentally high value sites. All spaces is a common need a sufficient level of daylight and direct sunlight. The entire area surrounding the exposure and access roads are designed to completely wheelchair accessible and accessible for persons with reduced mobility. The proposed solution to a sensitive development of existing space is achieved by a better, easier and easier availability. Term solutions proposed pavilions, yards and access roads is based on the themes of African villages. Small scale architectural and mutual spatial composition of individual materials of the new pavilions interconnected units reflects the typical mass breakdown of urban structures in the original locations of breeding species. Pavilions and animal quarters, and appropriately use the added space in the area of ??the zoo and complete the overall character of the place in the context of the current solution to urban zoo.
Tropical Solar Freezer
Trčálková, Miroslava ; Suchánek,, Petr (referee) ; Nový, Alois (advisor) ; Donaťáková, Dagmar (advisor)
The aim of this study was to design a tropical solar freezer, which would be entirely self-sufficient. The requirement was to install solar freezer to developing countries with insufficient technical infrastructure. The construction of solar freezer is located near Lake Victoria, in a town called Kisumu, Kenya in Africa. The main idea was to create a simple look that matches the use of the building. My suggestion was to create two separate buildings. The first is a small object, serving as a gatehouse. The second object is a large U-shaped, in which there are all the necessary facilities for the operation of freezer and facilities for staff. The supporting system consists of cast-in-place reinforced concrete columns. Solar panels located on the roof of freezers protect the building from direct sunlight. Diagonal steel rods fitted on the east and west facades constitute a significant feature of the building.

Multilateralism in Mali. The French presidential discourse 2012-2022
Holotová, Olga ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
1 Abstract This master's thesis examines the stance of two French presidents towards a multilateral solution to the Malian crisis between 2012 and 2022. Specifically, it examines the presidential term of François Hollande and the first presidential term of Emmanuel Macron. This corresponds to the culmination of the Malian crisis, followed by the launch of Operation Serval, and the decision to withdraw French troops from Mali. The research focuses on presidential discourse in the form of 46 selected presidential speeches related to African policy towards Mali. Based on the characteristics of the French political system, the French president is a key actor in foreign policy, and his discourse therefore represents a relevant resource for examining the French stance towards multilateral cooperation in resolving the Malian crisis and the French position in its framework. From a methodological point of view, the thesis is a case study consisting of two cases of the two presidential terms mentioned above. Both presidential discourses are analysed using the method of critical discourse analysis. By identifying the key discursive elements referring to unilateral or multilateral perceptions of the French presence in Mali, the thesis defines the prevailing framework of the discourse of the two presidents and thus also...

Stalmachová, Barbora
The diploma thesis is focused to selected indicators of the quality of life in Ghana. The main objective of the work is to objectively determine the quality of life in Ghana. This goal is fulfilled by sub-steps that include evaluating the areas and individual factors of the quality of life, analyzing their development and change over time and determining the main quality of life issues and challenges the country faces. The thesis uses the method of literary research, demographic analysis, time series analysis, comparison and synthesis and composite indicator. The work analyzes individual indicators of the quality of life, which are divided into five categories (demographic, economic, individual, health and environmental) in the time horizon 1990 to 2020, which is divided into three observed periods. The quality of life in Ghana increases over time, with the most significant increase in quality of life observed between the first two periods. For the first period (1990–2000) the quality of life index was calculated at the level of 10.61 %, for the second period (2001–2010) 40.83 % and for the last period (2011–2020) 48.56 %.

Given the absence of general knowledge about African migrants in the Czech Republic, it contributes to the knowledge production of African migrants by examining the general features of their composition and structures in the Czech Republic. More primarily, this study deals with the motivation for migration among Africans who chose the Czech Republic as their destination. Understanding the determinants of African migration in the Czech Republic remains poor and insufficient, as there is little empirical study that has specifically examined the determinants of migration among Africans in the Czech Republic. As a result, this study is a novel study that aims to...
