Sound poetry
Januš, Petr ; Šrámek, Petr (advisor) ; Jiráček, Pavel (referee)
The present work introduces the phenomenon of sound poetry on both the historical and theoretical levels. From the historical perspective, it is focused on the transitional phase of the development of experimental poetics, seen here as an emancipation of poetry based in its sound qualities from the traditional "paper literature". This process is traced with a view to major subgenres and individual poetics. One chapter is also dedictated to Czech auditive production. The theoretical section deals with selected issues of the given poetic domain and its relations to neighbouring areas. As a part of the work there is a 4 CD set enclosed, illustrating the development of both international and Czech sound poetry.
Puchmajer's poetry collections. The birth of contemporary Czech verse
Dobiáš, Dalibor ; Červenka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Jiráček, Pavel (referee) ; Langerová, Marie (referee)
The submitted work uses the example of poetry collections of A.J. Puchmajer (Sebrání básní a zpěvů /1795, 1797/ and Nové básně /1798, 1802, 1814) and other contemporary poetry, theoretic and critical works in the wider context of forming of new Czech prosody and meter system. The focus is put on treatise of verse problems in the traditions of Czech literary-scientific structuralism and development of this scientific tradition; further on the interpretation of relevant social, philological and poetological discourse of the end of 18th and beginning of 19th century with primary focus on literary works; and finally on the treatise of processes, by which the new Czech verse formed, in relation to older local literature of 18th century and current European context. In the general concept of literary science, the reform of the Czech verse, as performed by Slavist J. Dobrovský (Böhmische Prosodie, 1795), represents a milestone, perhaps even the beginning of new Czech prosody. Older "lower" syllabism (prosody directed by the constant number of syllables in a verse) and "higher" quantitative metrics (based on the alternation of long and short beats as in the ancient literature) were criticized by Dobrovský as archaic, insufficient (syllabism) or being contrary to the spirit of Czech language (quantitative metrics)....
Jiří Kolář's Nový don Quijote
Říha, Jakub ; Šrámek, Petr (advisor) ; Jiráček, Pavel (referee)
My thesis "Jiří Kolář's Nový don Quijote" focuses on the hitherto unknown manuscript of Jiří Kolář called Nový don Quijote (The New Don Quixote). It was written between 1936 and 1938/1939; in Kolář's bibliography it thus occupies a position between the typescript "novel reafora" Rudý havran (The Red Raven, written 1934-1936) and Kolář's first published collection of poems Křestný list (Birth Certificate,1941). Nový don Quijote is a poetical autobiography and it closes the first period of Kolář's literary work. It is divided into three parts in which the author summarizes his personal, erotic and creative life and builds his "poetical genealogy". The second part contains pieces of Kolář's older work, including two extensive examples from Rudý havran. Seen from this perspective Nový don Quijote is an invaluable source for the understanding of Kolář's early published writings. My thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the poetics of Nový don Quijote. It contains a brief description of formal inovations, examples of intertextuality and main motifs and themes of Nový don Quijote. The second part is a description of the editor's work with the text including a detailed description of textual sources, textual changes, linguistic and stylistic revisions and the making of editor's note. The...
Towards the sources of poetry: theory of the genesis of literary work by Jacques Maritain
Jelínková, Klára ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Jiráček, Pavel (referee)
This dissertation deals with the Maritain's art theory from the point of view of its potential contribution to the theory of literature. The contribution is considered to concentrate particularly in the definition of the artistic work as such on the basis of the specific poetic knowledge. Poetic knowledge is a special non-conceptional kind of knowledge, which takes place through emotions, through which the artist by means of his subjectivity portrays some unique aspect of the existence. Maritain's theory of inspiration portrays the artistic work from the very beginning, from the moment the creative intuition is born in the spirit of the artist until the final embodying of this intuition in the given art work. This theory marks also the way of passing the sense of the art work to the spectator. In the first part of the dissertation, wider context of the Maritain's philosophy is presented with particular emphasis on the philosophy of the history and on epistemology - areas, which are closely connected with the Maritain's art theory. Epistemology - because Maritain defines the art particularly by the special way of knowledge, philosophy of the history - particularly in relation to the theory of self-awareness of the poetry. The dissertation is furthermore focused first on the general definition of the fine...
