Development of cross-border cooperation in the years 1989 - 2011 between Czechia and Germany: Case study of the Prachatice and the Freyung-Grafenau districts
Štemberková, Růžena ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Jeřábek, Milan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the development of the present cross-border cooperation in the Prachatice district and the Freyung-Grafenau disttrict after the year 1989. To point out the increasing role of the European Union, particularly in this border region, before and after the entry to the EU in the guarantee of the regional development. In the frame of the given aim of the work the following hypothesis were formulated: The most important participants of the cross-border cooperation are more the institutions of the Euroregion than the activities of clubs and interest groups. The intensity of the cross-border cooperation is territorially differentiated. In the regional development the bigger towns in the district play a bigger role than small towns or villages, also thank to a bigger engagement and interest of the participants - the representatives of the authorities in the other regional, border and national institutions, and thanks to the funds from the EU. In small towns and villages the cross-border and Euroregional cooperation is, also in the regional development, declaratively discussed at many meetings, but practically there is neither potential nor its utilization. On the German side the towns and villages of the Euroregion are able to make efforts to gain the sources for the...
Burial culture in the Western world in the context of sociopolitical transformation
Hupková, Martina ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Daněk, Petr (referee) ; Kotrlý, Tomáš (referee)
This dissertation is focused on changes in burial culture in the modern and post-modern era resulting from the introduction of cremation as a new part of burial practices in Western countries. Its aim is to analyze changes in burial culture in the context of social and political developments and through their physical effects on the landscape. In order to evaluate contemporary burial culture in the Western world, the main cause of changes in burial culture was first separately analyzed as a phenomenon that appeared (the conditions for the origins of cremation) and expanded in geographical space (the circumstances under which cremation was adapted in Western countries). The diffusion of innovations theory is used, which is capable of describing and interpreting the process of introducing cremation in its modern form. In the second phase of research, specific manifestations of changes in burial culture caused by the introduction of cremation are examined based on case studies conducted in the field. In the following part of the dissertation findings are generalized, and how the perception and function of cemeteries have changed due to the influence of changes in burial culture and how the significance of the concept of the deathscape - landscapes and places whose appearance and relationships are...
Credit rating agencies and their impact on the bond markets of EU countries
Havlíček, Tomáš ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Jánský, Ivo (referee)
This thesis analyses long and short-term perception of announcements issued by leading credit rating agencies (Fitch, Moody's and S&P) in sovereign bond markets. Using three empirical approaches we assess the nature of impact of CRAs on 10Y sovereign bond yields and 5Y CDS of 24 countries of EU between 2002 and 2012. We find significant response of sovereign bond yield and CDS spreads to downgrades and negative outlooks. Furthermore there is evidence of anticipative power of sovereign bond markets in foreseeing negative events implying CRAs lag the market. The spillover effect from credit rating announcements has been revealed between both EMU and non-EMU parts of EU implying the financial integration is not limited only to countries with common currency. Well performing economies outside EMU are resistant to contagion. Media and Space: Influence of the Colonial Past on Cotemporary Media Coverage of France and Britain
Brádková, Hana ; Havlíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nováček, Aleš (referee)
This thesis examines the influence of the colonial past on contemporary media coverage of France and Britain. It focuses on selected colonies and the frequency of their references on two websites - Skynews.com and France24.fr. Thus the thesis tries to answer the question whether or not the colonial past is still a strong determinant which governs the media's priorities. Imperial history has always been very vivid in these countries, where vast colonial land was possessed. Consequently they must now deal with the impact of their incursions. A strong relationship with former colonies exists and still be seen through the media. In addition, the fact that news media still prefers those states to the information about different former colonies, proves the existence of very strong bonds after the end of decolonial processes. The thesis is divided into two main sections. The first section considers the theoretical frame of analyzed notions (e.g. the geography of communication, colonialism or postcolonialism etc.), colonial history and pursuits the basic facts from media studies. Subsequently, the second section focuses on research results, whereby the principal aim is to confirm the assumption that British and French media prefers to inform more about their own former colonies than colonies of the second great...

ResPublica/Civitas Socialis - Strachotín
Kisová, Barbora ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The diploma thesis follows the project of the pre-diploma, in which detailed analyzes of the potential of the village were made, from which it follows that the most important place that the village needs to revive for further development is the village square itself. In the current state, a cluster of buildings is built on a clearly defined area of the village, which brings chaos and confusion to the urban structure. The building of the municipal office stopped communicating through the building of the former elementary school. The area between buildings, formerly designed for local residents to hold festivals, now serves as a handling yard. The aim of the work is to clean the area of the village, to restore its original lost character and to add the urban structure to a building that will serve both local inhabitants and tourist visitors.
