The Emergence of Cultural Otherness in Philosophy and the Problematics of Intercultural Hermeneutics
Coquereau, Elise Isadora Marie Colette ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Stenger, Georg (referee)
Horizon as Limit: About the Critique of Phenomenality of Being in Early Heidegger
Otagiri, Kentaro ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Sakai, Kiyoshi (referee)
of the Master Thesis "Horizont als Grenze: Zur Kritik der Phänomenalität des Seins beim frühen Heidegger" Student: Kentarō OTAGIRI Master Erasmus Mundus EuroPhilosophie The intention of the Master Thesis is the critique of the phenomenality of being as a phenomenon in the horizontal thinking in early Heidegger, particularly in the context of his fundamental ontology. This is about the limit of the horizon for the phenomenon of being and of the limit of the thinking. This raises the question: What is the limit of the horizon for the being as a phenomenon and for the thinking? This problem is investigated through the conflict between the phenomenological-hermeneutical thinking of Heidegger and the thinking of dimensionality of life in Yoshihiro Nitta. Key words: M. Heidegger, Y. Nitta, horizon, limit, phenomenology, ontology, hermeneutics, Being and Time, Kantbuch.
What Means Ontography? The Modelling and Experience of Forms of Thinking and Reality Using the Example of the Philosophy of Heinrich Rombach
Stadler, Michael ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Stenger, Georg (referee)
The first chapter develops, on the basis of former characterizations of the concept 'ontography' within the history of philosophy, an autonomous definition of ontography. The second chapter applies this concept - ontography - to various theories that are possibly compatible with this definition. The proffered definition will prove itself insufficient, however, and it will be subsequently extended to a meta-ontology in the third chapter by means of theories about models, schemata and embodiment. The extended definition sets up a possible implementation in the philosophy of Heinrich Rombach. Accordingly, the fourth chapter presents an analysis and interpretation of the philosophy of Rombach in the framework of the extended definition of ontography. The fifth and final chapter critically examines once again the methodology and the consequences of this thesis, as well as examines determinations of the concept of 'ontography', mainly in relation to ontology. Keywords: Aesthetics, Embodiment, Experience, Forms of Thinking, Graphics, Heinrich Rombach, Image Schema, Mediated Immediateness, Meta-Ontology, Model, Model Theory, Ontography, Ontology, Ontological Experience, Semantics, Visual Models.
Will to Power and Eternal Return: A critical Reading of Heidegger's Interpretation of Nietzsche
Guzun, Madalina ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Nielsen, Cathrin (referee)
The Home of the Phenomenologists. The Circle of Bergzabern in the Context of the Early Phenomenological Movement.
Feldes, Joachim ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Sokol, Jan (referee) ; Ales Bello, Angela (referee)
The Bergzabern Circle, whose significance was first identified by Herbert Spiegelberg in his Phenomenological Movement and later underscored by Eberhard Avé-Lallemant, is one of the groups of critical importance to Edith Stein, due to her life-long focus on the communities within and through which she lived and for which she felt responsible. This applies, of course, to her family and to religious communities such as the Cologne and the Echt Carmel, as well as to groups within the Phenomenological Movement and the movement itself. Stein was a member of the inner circle alongside Theodor Conrad, Hedwig Conrad-Martius, Jean Hering, Hans Lipps, Alexandre Koyré and the hitherto much neglected Alfred von Sybel. In Stein's thinking and work after World War I, she benefits substantially from this exchange of ideas, and many of her propositions cannot be correctly interpreted without reference to this circle. For example, any account of her Speyer Years (1923-31) that fails to adequately discuss Stein's relationships with and visits to Bergzabern, must remain incomplete, as it lacks an essential dimension of Stein's personality. What shaped the group's beginnings and its goals was the young phenomenologists' turning away from the 'transcendental' Husserl and towards Reinach in the Göttingen Philosophical...
Critique of Mythical Economy
Asjoma, Maxim ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Blecha, Ivan (referee) ; Hasse, Rolf (referee)
The concept of myth pervades economic theory and exercise. However, the influence of myth on contemporary economics is not yet analyzed sufficiently - a distinguished critique of mythical economy lacks a fundamental phenomenological approach. Based on this diagnosis, a new method of analysis shall be developed to build up a theoretical framework for an adequate understanding of the foundations of economics. The premise of such an approach is an evolved phenomenological method containing the works of Edmund Husserl, Heinrich Rombach and Michel Henry called "Structural Contingency Analysis". With this, mythical parts of economic language and exercise shall be elucidated for an improved comprehension of its phenomena. Along a differentiated understanding of the concept of myth, as a fundamentally essential way of perception, as also stressed by the research of Kurt Hübner, Karl Kerényi and Jean Gebser, an advanced understanding of the mythical ideology shall be delivered. Finally all preliminary theoretical foundations will be used for a fundamental critique of modern economics. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
A phenomenological view of colour
Zhu, Pingbo ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Novotný, Karel (referee)
Masterthesis Eine phänomenologische Betrachtung der Farbe A phenomenological view of colour Pingbo Zhu Every colour theory begs a space theory. A main aim of the space theory is to catch the core of knowledge: through knowing something we can know the world outside of us. This thesis is to illustrate a different way of defining colour by introducing a phenomenological way of talking about space. This question will thus be answered: why is colour a quality of an object and at the same time a content of sensation of subject? Thus a solution probably is that colour is a phenomenological bridge of objects and subjects. Some philosophers, who hold a standpoint of physicalism may argue that all mental states and activities can be reduced thoroughly to physical states and activities. Another claim would be that all sensations are the results of the activities of brain nerves. But in the following paragraphs I will analyse why a colour theory with the standpoint of physicalism cannot explain away colour. A phenomenological view of colour will therefore emphasize the necessity of the independence of mental activities, in other words, sensations and perceptions, which give rise to a better explanation of colour.
Spiral in art
Lucas, Nathalie ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (advisor) ; Goddard, Jean-Christophe (referee)
Title : The spiral in art. Aesthetic, ethical and political aspects. Abstract : In this work, we built up a collection of the different works of art in which the spiral form appears, in order to seize the symbolic meaning associated to this form particularly recurrent in Occidental art. We analysed its metamorphoses in different arts -architecture, painting, music, film, etc. - and its different roles, from its apparently ornamental role in the Ionic order, to its more immediately conceptually-loaded role in Renaissance painting or Baroque architecture: the comparison of these occurrences of the spiral in art led us to put into light a shift in the way men looked at nature, the Greek artists electing the spiral because of its sober regularity, the Renaissance painters or the Baroque architects putting emphasis on a power, characteristic of the logarithmic spiral, to evoke « nature's » prodigality in the display of forms - the spiral being only one among them - and the mysterious, to some men and artists even miraculous, character of the appearance of life and the growth of living beings. We therefore focused on the study of the motives that appeal on this symbolic in art. We were particularly interested in the motif of the shell, its many variations leading us from the cornucopia and the representations of...
Man in life
Held, Lukas Amadeus ; Novotný, Karel (advisor) ; Sepp, Hans Rainer (referee)
The object of our master-thesis is to draw a comparison between Michel Henry's phenomenology of life and Hans Blumenberg's philosophical anthropology, in order to show that both philosophies can enrichen each other and even solve some of the internal problems we will name and analyse. Several "classic" philosophical problems and questions will guide us through our argument: from esthetical and poetic questions, the problem of modern technology to a comparison of the phenomenology of Blumenberg and Henry. Finally, we will unify both standpoints to a new variation of phenomenology by trying to defend the thesis that Henrys phenomenology of life is ruled by an underlying anthropologism: Henry's "Vie" can only be understood as "human life", as "vie humaine".
