Detailed Spatial Analysis of Parliamentary Elections in 2010 Using Geographically Weighted Regression
Kuča, Martin ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Nosek, Štěpán (referee)
The thesis deals with the geographical analysis of the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic in 2010. Its main goal is a detailed analysis of the elections using the method of geographically weighted regression (GWR), statistical method, which allows to uncover spatial context of the examined phenomenon more precisely. Furthermore, it is investigated whether and how the entry of new political parties on the scene (TOP 09, Věci veřejné) in 2010 changed the territorial relationship between voting behavior and the socioeconomic characteristics of the population compared to 2006 elections. The data at the municipal level from the Census 2001 and 2011 and election data are used. Data are analyzed using GWR, analysis of variance and multiple linear regression. It is shown that the global decline in turnout in 2010 was greater in the left-wing than in the right-wing regions. The existence of regional differences in the relations between local characteristics and the results of the election of the parties is demonstrated. These observed differences appear to be relatively stable - results in 2010 for each party are similar to results from 2006, especially for the ODS and the KSČM. Explanatory variables for voting for TOP 09 are very similar to those of ODS, with a larger positive effect of...
Liquid Biofuels in EU: Development of the Usage and Possible Relations
Valeš, Jiří ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šatra, Jan (referee)
The thesis describes history, context and present situation of liquid biofuels usage in transport in the EU and with the help of basic statistical indicators researches the development of differences of the importance of biofuels in Member States. For these purposes a database of shares of biofuels in energy consumption in transport is created. If we understand the shares of biofuels as indicators of the intensity or the significance of biofuels usage, we can exemine its differences. With the help of Lorenz curve the development of rate of biofuels production inequality is described. Thesis is looking for possible relations to differencies in intensity of biofuels usage in Member states. With the main contribution of literature, there are several characteristics chosen and there are examined their relations to shares of biofuels with the help of Spearman correlation coeficient. In the closure of the thesis their possible influence on biofuels usage is discoussed. Key words: liquid biofuels, useage, share of biofuels, correlation
Current Trends in Quantitative Analysis of Geographical Data: Potentialities and Limitations of Spatial Data Analysis
Netrdová, Pavlína ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Ježek, Josef (referee) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
of the Ph.D. Thesis Netrdová, P.: Current trends in quantitative analysis of geographical data: potentialities and limitations of spatial analysis The thesis is a contribution to the discussion about the potentialities of the quantitative approach in geography. It follows the current trends in quantitative analysis of geographical data, specifically spatial analysis, particularly from the perspective of changes in the concept and character of applied methods and their possible contribution in geographical research. Due to the research focus of the author, the entire work is focused primarily on the issue of using quantitative methods in terms of social geography. Attention is focused particularly on statistically spatial analyses, which are the most widely used techniques in social geography, with a wide range of possible applications. One of the goals of this work is to bring the current development in quantitative geography closer to the Czech academic community, and thus contribute to the increased awareness of the potentialities of the application of quantitative methods and spatial analyses in geographical research. Methodological problems in the analysis of spatial data, theoretical changes in the concept of quantitative analysis and also newly emerging quantitative methods have not so far...

Mathematical Skills Applied to Teaching of Geography at High School In the Topic The Earth as a Cosmic Orb
Matýsková, Pavla ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Marada, Miroslav (referee)
Matýsková, P. (2010): Mathematical skills applied to the teaching of geography at secondary schools in the topic the Earth as a cosmic orb. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. Submitted diploma thesis deals with interdisciplinary relationships between mathematics and geography at grammar schools in the topic the Earth as a cosmic orb. The relationships are generally described from the point of view of three curriculum forms (intended, implemented and achieved). In the area of the intended curriculum there is an analysis of curriculum documents carried out, especially of the Framework educational programme and of selected school educational programmes. Subsequently, the links between selected secondary school textbooks of geography and mathematics are evaluated on the basis of required curriculum, its quality, intelligibility and occurrence of examples from the practice. The subchapters of the selected unit, in which an application of mathematical skills can be found, are defined in detail and specified on the basis of the carried analysis. Deep, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the teachers at selected grammar schools for the purpose of the study of the implemented curriculum. The achieved curriculum was found out on the basis of the...
Mathematical skills applied to teaching of cartography at high school
Leipertová, Gabriela ; Polonský, Filip (referee) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor)
LEIPERTOVÁ, G. (2010): Mathematical skills applied to teaching of cartography at high school. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. The present bachelor thesis focuses on application of mathematical skills in the teaching of cartography at high school. It is concerned with the role of and interdisciplinary relations between cartography and mathematics in the curriculum. The content analysis of the chosen textbooks evaluates the relations between cartography and mathematics on the basis of presence of required subject matter, its quality and the amount of practical examples. Furthermore, chapters of geographic and thematic cartography, where mathematical knowledge is applied, are defined and specified in details. The last part of the bachelor thesis deals with cartographic exercises, whose solutions require mathematical skills.
