Farm in the Cave--a Laboratory Theatre
Mogilnicka, Krystyna ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Stehlíková, Eva (referee) ; Ostrowska, Joanna (referee)
This thesis, entitled Farm in the Cave-a Laboratory Theatre, presents Viliam Dočolomanský's International Theatre Studio Farm in the Cave based in Prague, Czech Republic as an aspect of the discourse of 'laboratory theatres.' The first part examines the concept of the 'laboratory theatres' that developed in the 1960s as a new 'genre' of theatre practice and a 'method' of creating performances based on physical expression; this is presented as distinct from the 'theatre laboratories' that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century mostly in the framework of institutions as 'schools' for actors. As such, this thesis introduces the changes that came with Jerzy Grotowski's manifestos in connection to his easily adaptable training for actors and idea of 'physical scores.' Laboratory theatres' background and interests are presented as alternative theatre practice that emerged from a need of 'searching for truth' through the body what evolved into counterculture attitude. The first part establishes Eugenio Barba's Odin Teatret as an independent laboratory that developed on the margins of the contemporary theatre community and evolved into an influential culture institution. Odin Teatret's achievements in developing physical acting and original theatre directing are set in confrontation with the...

Štefanová, Veronika ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Drozd, David (referee) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
This dissertation introduces contemporary circus as a type of dramatic art. The work thus provides a basic framework for the analysis of contemporary circus and suggests a terminology for the designation of its specific traits. This terminology is derived first and foremost from the Czech theatre studies environment. The theoretical delineation of contemporary circus stems from selected theses from Otakar Zich's The Aesthetics of Dramatic Art and Erika Fischer-Lichte's The Transformative Power of Performance: A New Aesthetics. Contemporary circus, which is depicted as belonging to several discourses - historical, aesthetic, cultural policy and pedagogical, is described from a formal as well as content-focused point of view in order to best point out how the circus element changes and takes on meaning in relation to its theatrical counterpart. The thesis is subdivided into five parts. The introduction outlines the key theme, goals and methodology as well as terminology and theories which provide the work with a suitable point of departure. The Contemporary and Traditional Circus chapter describes the history and development of traditional as well as contemporary circus in selected countries (France, Canada, USA, Scandinavia) which are considered significant within the context of circus arts...

Interspecies transplantations of embryonic germ cels in fish
Fučíková, Michaela ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Vegrichtová, Markéta (referee)
Primordial gonocytes (PGC) are embryonic germ cells and they are precursors of sperm cells and oocytes. We can identify, isolate and grow them in cell's culture. We can store them in a frozen state in liquid nitrogen for long term. We can transplant these cells into recipient of the same or a close related species, which is sterile in the ideal case. The cells which are transplanted can develop in recipient's body so this recipient can produce the donor's gametes after maturation. Such individual is called germline chimera. The manipulation with germ cells can provide several benefits, for example preservation of germ cells from endangered or valuable species/stains in a gene bank. Or we can shorten generation interval that is convenient for late adolescent species in a case of appropriately chosen recipient. The aim of this thesis is to summarize knowledge about fish PGCs and a possible using of these cells for transplantations. Keywords: primordial gonocytes, germ stem cells, germline chimera, transplantation, surrogate parents
Political theatre of Falk Richter in post-dramatic context
Chvátalová, Martina ; Augustová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
(Anglicky) This diploma thesis conducts a survey of dramatic and theatre work of contemporary German dramatist and director Falk Richter (born 1969) in the context of German political theatre of 20th century, thus primarily Brecht and Piscator tradition. At the same time, the concepts of political and post-dramatic theatre are defined and elaborated. The work points out that the current political function of theatre and its chance to directly influence social reality is understood differently than in the case of both pre-war and post-war epic drama by Erwin Piscator and Bertolt Brecht, or in the documentary drama of the 1960s. The key goal of the thesis is to analyze and interpret chosen Richter's dramatic writings and mainly the project Trust, which was created in collaboration with Dutch choreographer Anouk van Dijk. The project can be perceived as a current form of Richter's poetry, which gradually deviates from the "drama" theatre and inclines to motion drama with dance and performance elements. It is showed how the authors deal with present social and personal issues, which are transformed into theatre expression, motion and dance. At last, the thesis examines in what consists the politics of this project.
