Czech-Bavarian cultural relations in the early Middle Ages
Hasil, Jan ; Klápště, Jan (advisor) ; Bláhová, Marie (referee)
This diploma thesis presents an attempt on a multi-disciplinary approach to the oldest period of Czech-Bavarian relations no from the point of view of political history but cultural history. The aim of the work excludes the analysis of all problems because material sources, unlike written sources which are available in primary issues, have still added up and which have not been mapped basically, or evaluated, so far. The text has a disposition of several research probes to written sources that are evaluated by existing subjective approaches; I make an analysis of their possibilities and limits. In the introductory chapter, I focus on the chronological problem limitation and the problems of the ethnic interpretation. The next part contains of an overview of Czech-Bavarian contacts from the point of view of political history and specific hypotheses. The second chapter is dedicated to the problems of the Slavonic settlement of Northeastern Bavaria which has marginalized by Czech research workers so far. In the third chapter, which is focused on chronological relations among early medieval burying grounds in Bohemia and in Northeastern Bavaria, I deal with local differences in dating of S-shaped rings and imply some solutions of this problem. The fourth part concentrates on the settlements on the Czech-Bavarian...
St. Adalbert's church in Jílové by Prague
Halanová, Eliška ; Bláhová, Marie (advisor) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
St. Adalbert's Church in Jílové by Prague is one of the oldest monuments in the city and its story is essentially connected with the history of the city and its role as a significant gold deposit. Therefore, in research of his past we should distinguish between two lines of studies - the fate of the church as a parish benefice and the history of this remarkable building and as a historical monument. In the introduction of the thesis we meet the history of the royal city of goldmining, watch the beginnings of his fame, the great boom in the 14th century, the change of conditions after the Hussite wars and the gradual withdrawal of its significance, despite the apparent efforts to restore his position. In following chapter, we see the development of the parish, staffing the benefices, pastors' personalities and their little stories. An interesting point in this chapter is the construction of a Franciscan monastery in Jílové, which temporarily took over the management of the entire parish. In the second section of the thesis we see the establishment of the church-building and its initial form, as well as its reconstruction and modifications to the current appearance. The last part is especially devoted to the main altar and another interesting inventory. Keywords church, history, Jílové by Prague,...

Travelling to the Near East at the Turn of the Middle Ages and Modern Period Vedoucí
Homolka, Vojtěch ; Picková, Dana (advisor) ; Bláhová, Marie (referee)
The main goal of this thesis is to analyse everyday aspects of travels to the Near East at the turn of the Middle Ages and early modern period. The emphasis of my research project is, in particular, possibilities and customs of obtaining food, hygiene, lodgings, ways of spending of a leisure time, perils and the relationship of travellers to natives. I drew information primarily from the itineraries of Czech, German and Italian Jewish pilgrims, who undertook pilgrimages to the Holy Land between 1470 and 1550. From fragmentary mentions of individual authors I try to create a comprehensive mosaic about the selected aspects of pilgrimages, which I compared then with the everyday life of noblemen and burghers around 1500. I try to catch differences in the behaviour of Christian and Jewish pilgrims and to draw attention to gradual changes in the course of the sixteenth century. Pilgrims had to face an unusual composition of their diet during travels to the Near East and often to settle for lower portions and narrower diversity of their dishes. On the other hand they kept at their disposal a better selection of salt water fish or subtropical fruits. By keeping various hygienic habits pilgrims tried to prevent illnesses, which could cause death in some cases. Sleeping on an overseas ship or in oriental...

Hereby presented diploma paper is concentrating primarily on the Book Of Henryków (BOH), the outcome of Cistercian literature as produced in Silesia at the break of 13th and 14th century. I worked with Roman Grodecki edition, published in 1991. At the beginning I resumed published editions and source related literature. W orks containing some notions on BOH but not dealing with it further were left behind. Here I also made few remarks on topics I did not work with later on, as clashes between Polish, German and Roman/German canon law and the case of the oldest Polish-written sentence. I did not comment largely literature exploited for the purpose of this paper. In first part I reviewed general political and cultural situation in the 12th, 13th and the beginning of 14th century Silesia, and introduced the moment when Grey Monks entered this area. Then I summarized contemporary Cistercian writing, where those produced in communities of Lubi'l_z, Trzebnica, Henryków and Kamienec are the most significant. These were mainly obituaries, annals, chronicles, Bishop' s lists, legends and Boo k Of Henrykow itself. With the help of previous researches and manuscript fascimile, I analyzed handwriting, authors, organization of BOH manuscript and reasons of manuscripťs creation. Using the example of Bobolice village, I...

Czech prince and Saxon duke in 12th century. Comparison of the Czech principate and Saxon duchy of Henry the Lion
Zelenka, Jan ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Bláhová, Marie (referee)
If we resume the results of our comparison, we can see that the basic difference between the duchy of Saxony, territorial domain of Henry the Lion and Bohemian principality is represented by inner political structure of these domains. In consequent this inner political structure were also the chances ofthe emperor encroach diverged. The Saxonian duchy was a conglomerate of major number of aristocratic domains. The holders of these domains (bishops, earls ..... etc.) did not subordinate to fiats of the duke, they did not grant his authority. His power and support from emperor Frederick I. Barbarossa gave him a factual dominance over the other princes of Saxony however it did not let him to beared rule over them. His effort to enlarge his own principality threatened other princes's political positions and that is why they were in constant opposition
