Filová, Alexandra ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Šánová, Lucie (referee)
A steep rise in Commonwealth immigrants entering Britain during the first half of the fifties resulted in a series of debates concerning the possibility to limit this inflow by legislation. In order to be able to analyze these debates, it is necessary to understand the historical background of the whole issue. Therefore a short description of certain basic facts regarding immigration precedes the actual political analysis. This part shows Britain as a country traditionally opened to Commonwealth immigration. However, the unprecedented number of immigrants entering the country in the first post-war years raised concern. In reaction to this anxieties British overseas officers applied certain measures to deter local population from considering a trip to Britain. When the preventive actions did not yield satisfying results, the government applied legislative restrictions.

For a more accurate understanding of the topic it is necessary to clarify the differences between various groups of Muslims in terms of their time of arrival in France, the country of origin and the type of professed Islam. Červeňová, Barbora ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
Diploma thesis focuses on integration policies in the Netherlands and Canada since 1970' s till nowadays. Both countries are well known for implementing multiculturalism. Canada has become the only country that through Multiculturalism Act claimed official support for multiculturalism policy and is still doing so even recently when this model is being refused by most of the other countries. Such a situation developed in the Netherlands which became an example of a failure of multiculturalism. However multiculturalism was of a different kind in each of those countries and so was the final form of integration policies. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse similarities and differences in both integration policies and to find relevant factors that impacted their failure in the Netherlands and their success in Canada. Diploma thesis describes the basic milestones in the development of integration policies and changes in the respective time period. It also points out the main differences in the concept of multiculturalism in the Netherlands and Canada and tries to explain it on the historical, state building, national identity and multiculture background.
