Student's conception of regularity
Šmíd, Radek ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Pilous, Derek (referee)
This paper is a view into the conception of regularity in mathematics. Possible approaches to the concept of regularity in mathematics are dicussed. There is a presentation of the characteristics and relations of regular geometric figures. The conception of regularity on the part of students is explored based on the analysis of the math textbooks. This analysis of textbooks in terms of regularity is also part of the work. The aim is to identify the types of objects which pupils are able to perceive as relationed by regularity of these objects and whether they rather use other criteria when selecting objects that do not belong to the group. Mostly the frequency and manner of expression of selection on the basis of regularity was monitored when analyzing acquired data, as well as the other most common selection criteria and the relations between the criteria used. Keywords: regularity, conception of regularity, geometry, questionnaire
The theme of popular music in regional newspapers of contemporary Karlovy Vary region in the period 1957-1967
Šmíd, Radek ; Houda, Přemysl (advisor) ; Diestler, Radek (referee)
The dissertation Topic of popular music in the local press of contemporary Karlovy Vary region in the period 1957 - 1967 attempts to capture the process of official views presented in the regional press between the years 1957 - 1967 in the territory of today's Karlovy Vary Region on various genres of modern music, represented by mainstream dance music which later evolved into popular music. Articles, reviews and critiques relevant to modern music published in newspapers in area of Karlovy Vary and specialist publications dedicated to particular cultural issues in the region was used for the research. Furthermore, it was primarily jazz and rock music in Czechoslovakia known as big beat (bigbít). The introduction deals with the theoretical and methodological issues appropriate to the topic and their possible use. The next part deals with the social and cultural context in Czechoslovakia at that time, the influence of ideology on culture and simultaneously on releasing in art and society during the 1960s. An overview of contextualization within postwar (World War II) official press, the situation regarding modern music in Karlovy Vary regional press in the period 1948 - 1956 and also archival documents that are related to the topic of work are mentioned in the second part. The third part deals with...

Ban on, and restriction of some types of conventional weapons in armed conflicts
Šmíd, Radek ; Hýbnerová, Stanislava (referee) ; Ondřej, Jan (advisor)
57 Summary The subject of my graduation thesis is "The ban and restriction of certain types of conventional weapons in armed conflicts". First, it was necessary to define that as conventional weapons are understood all weapons not being weapons of mass destruction, to explain that the ban and restrictions can take many different forms, and finally, to define, to which kind of armed conflicts the humanitarian rules are to be applied. A brief review of the advance on the field of ban and restrictions of certain conventional weapons has been given, including the historical context. From medieval times, when the only international authority, capable of at least trying to moderate the horrors of war, was the pope, over the first agreements of "civilised nations" in the times before the World War I, to the modern conventions adopted after World War II. Great attention is paid to the Declaration of St.Petersburg and to the so-called law of Hague (consisting of many agreements, today a part of the customary law), which as the first documents state, that the progress of civilization should have the effect of alleviating as much as possible the calamities of war, and they contain the prohibition of use of weapons which uselessly aggravate the sufferings and the Hague law even the prohibition of non-discriminating use...
Lenght characterization of a piezoelectric actuator by use of a mode-locked femtosecond laser
Pravdová, Lenka ; Lešundák, Adam ; Šmíd, Radek ; Číp, Ondřej
Modern laser interferometers with high resolution are considered as very precise sensors for length measurement. We assembled a specialized optical resonator using silver mirrors. The femtosecond laser with a repetition frequency of 250 MHz and a central wavelength 1560 nm of supercontinuum is used. Femtosecond laser is stabilized by optical frequency comb technique, ie. the frequency offset fCEO and repetition frequency frep is synchronized by our ultra-stable frequency source - hydrogen maser. The technique of derivative spectroscopy is used for locking the resonance peaks of the resonator component of the supercontinuum. The frequency frep in fine steps in the desired range of values is changed via control electronics. This was achieved by changing the length of the cavity in the order of several hundred of nanometers. Repetition frequency change is carried out so that the entire range of the length of the actuator is tested. Value of the applied voltage is recorded for every measured point of the characteristics. The result is a measured characteristic hysteresis curve of the PZT actuator.
Multiplication of Repetition frequency of Erbium doped pulsed fiber Laser
Šmíd, Radek ; Pravdová, Lenka ; Lešundák, Adam ; Číp, Ondřej
We designed a set-up with external Fabry-Perot cavity including the mode-matching lenses, silver mirrors and locking scheme to multiplicate erbium-doped fiber laser comb. The cavity is coupled to fiber output via fiber collimator in the set-up. Initial repetition rate frequency of 250 MHz was multiplicated to 1 GHz on the Fabry-Perot cavity with 1 GHz free spectral range and a pair of 40 nm silver mirrors in plan-concave configuration.
