Gustav Leutelt, a poet of the Jizera Mountains

Special attention is paid on describing the Jizera Mountains that play a pivotal role in his creation. The first chapter formulates the subject matter and establishes the goals of the thesis. The second chapter takes a brief look at the Leutelt's life and his writing. The third chapter covers introduction of specific works from three main areas of his art, which were fictional prose, legends and natural works. The final chapter summarizes the results and insights of the thesis.

This master's thesis introduces the essential biographical sources for the research of the great personality of European German studies, journalism and politics, Prof. Eduard Goldstücker (1913- 2000): Prozesse: Erfahrungen eines Mitteleuropäers (1989), Vzpomínky 1913-1945 (2003), Vzpomínky 1945-1968 (2005) and Von der Stunde der Hoffnung zur Stunde des Nichts: Gespräche (2009). As the coordinate axis for understanding of the development and extensive areas of operation of this unique type of germanist serve the massive social and historical transformations in the 20th century Europe: The Great Depression, the World Wars, anti-Semitism, fascism, the Cold War, Stalinism, the Prague Spring and the period after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The focus of this thesis are Goldstücker's professional, editorial and journalistic activities and interconnected efforts in the field of diplomacy, politics and current affairs, which make him a scientific and social personality of exceptional importance.

Autobiography in comic books and literature

This thesis concerns with the literary theory of autobiography and its use for comics. The goal is to try to modify literary theory for comics and apply it in practical analysis. The fundamental theoretical framework constitutes of The autobiographical Pact by Philippe Lejeune and a theory of paratexts according to Gérard Genette. In practical analysis the thesis bases on the comparison of comics with literary work and uses the knowledge acquired in the theoretical part. The emphasis is put on designing of autobiographical pact and on para- and metatexts which are connected to both of the books. Female characters in the work of Franz Kafka

The thesis deals with female characters in selected works by Franz Kafka (1883-1924), the well known representative of the Prague German literature. These works include the short story The Metamorphosis (1915) and the posthumously published novel fragments The Man Who Disappeared (1927), The Trial (1925) and The Castle (1926). The thesis discusses how the individual female characters are portrayed in these texts, what role they play in the protagonist's life and how they influence him. At the forefront, there is an interaction between the male main characters and the female characters. The thesis proceeds mainly in a textanalytical way without making any connections between fictional women in the works of the author and real women in his life. At first, the female characters in each of the selected texts are separately analysed and then they are compared. The conclusion serves for a comparison of all female characters in these works and for a formulation of a general statement about them.

Necrophilia as a love to the future: (De-)construction of the history in selected dramas of Heiner Müller

Keywords: GDR literature, historical drama, postdramatic theatre, history, memory, Heiner Müller, Walter Benjamin, Bertolt Brecht, Lehrstück Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to analyse the representation of the German history and its relation with the reality of the GDR in selected dramas by Heiner Müller (1929-1995): Germania Death in Berlin, Germania 3 Ghosts at Dead Man, Life of Gundling Frederick of Prussia Lessing's Dream Sleep Scream, The Battle, The Horatian and The Hamletmachine. The main focus of interest is also the approach of the playwright to selected literary and theatrical genres as historical drama, Lehrstück and postdramatic theatre. The philosophical background of the analysis is based mainly on Walter Benjamin's essay On the Concept of History and his description of the painting Angelus Novus by Paul Klee. Furthermore, the thesis examines the methods of dramatization in Heiner Müller's plays.

Ödön von Horváth - The Development of the Individual in Modern Popular Plays

This thesis deals with different types of individuals in modern popular plays of Ödön von Horváth. In the first part the development of popular plays is outlined from its beginnings to the present, and there also is a brief description of the Vienna theaters at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Followed by an analysis of the characters in Horváths popular plays, which are: "The Mountain Railroad", "Tales from the Vienna Wood", "Italian Night" and "Kasimir and Karoline".

Freudian psychoanalysis and the literature of Vienna's modern art in chosen texts by Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig.

Subject of the present thesis is an analysis of relations between Freudian psychoanalysis and the literature of Vienna's modern art in chosen texts by Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig. At first, thesis gives an overview of Freudian way to psychoanalysis, topic of sexuality and his attitude to Vienna and to anti-Semitism. These explanations are followed by a portrait of two Freudian compositions - Creative Writers and Day-Dreaming and Sexual Morality and Modern Nervosity (both 1908). Then Vienna's modern art and the authors Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig with their works Fraulein Else (1924) and Amok (1922) are explained.
