Comparison of taxation in roadway and railway transportation in Czech republic in years 2005 to 2016 pointing at fiscal and regulatory function of transportation taxes
Firichová, Barbora ; Chmelová, Pavla (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Bachelor thesis specializes in roadway and railway transportation and defines problems connected with different taxation in both sectors. Thesis helps to organize the data in transportation, which is dispensable in economy and fast developing. Thesis provides the base for making an analysis of taxation tools nad functions which they should fulfil. Attention is pointing at fiscal and regulatory function. Analytical part defines fundamental institutions in transportation and relevant strategic documents. In time from 2005 to 2016 an analysis of Czech republic is done, thesis focuses on development of transportation tax rates, development of tax income and statistical data about changes of structure in personal and freight transport. The goal is to use the analysed data for final evaluation and put them in context of the goal of Transport policy 2014-2020. Bachelor thesis is able to say that national and supranational interest may differ and so that the regulatory tendency does not always corespond with fiscal essence of taxes. The goal of Transport policy is not fulfilled yet, but the development can be considered as positive. Nevertheless the railways are not stimulated enough the roadways are not sufficiently regulated.
How is the Swiss economy coping with the CHF appreciation after the SNB's exít?
Borufka, Roman ; Holub, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to describe the situation in the Swiss economy before the SNB discontinued the minimum exchange rate. Furthermore, the aim is to anal- yse the impact of the abandonment of the exchange rate floor on key macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, year-on-year changes in consumer and producer prices or unemployment rate. The interactions between CHF/EUR exchange rate and real GDP, CPI and 3-month LIBOR are examined using VAR model on quarterly data from 1999 to 2016. The results suggest that the CHF/EUR exchange rate appreci- ation has temporary dampening effects on GDP, CPI and 3-month LIBOR. These results are consistent with the developments in macroeconomic variables after the discontinuation of the minimum exchange rate. Electricity market: Analysis and prediction of volatility
Kunc, Vladimír ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Electricity market: Analysis and prediction of volatility Abstract Vladimír Kunc July 30, 2015 The last two decades can be characterized by restructuring of energy industry and the creation of new, competitive energy markets, where accurate forecasts of elec- tricity prices and price volatility are valuable both to consumers and producers. The aim of this work is to analyse several models for prediction of the price volatility of electricity on the Czech Electricity Day-ahead market on price data provided by OTE, a.s. for years 2009-2014. This work compares 144 different models' configura- tions for three distinct classes of models - autoregressive models, GARCH models, and artificial neural network models. This work provides comparison based on five different criteria, each describing the model in different way. Keywords: price prediction, volatility prediction, GARCH, neural networks, LSTM 1
The banking crisis 1929 -1933
Strnadová, Petra ; Baxa, Jaromír (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
The issue of banking crises is of a significant importance due to their impact on the economic situation and having revealed the main causes of a bank distress, it should be possible to avoid some of them in the future by taking appropriate measures. The banking crisis during the Great Depression belongs to the biggest crises in the history and provides a great opportunity to properly examine the behaviour of U.S. banks. Therefore, the aim of my thesis is to identify the key moments of the banking crisis, analyse the adopted policies and regulations, reveal the main causes of bank suspensions and to examine the bank balance sheets to state which type of bank was the most resilient. The results implied that the crucial event was a fall of a large investment bank in 1930 that initiated the wave of banking panic when banks started fighting against both illiquidity and insolvency problems. The analysis showed that mutual saving banks were the most successful and that the trust of the public together with insufficient deposit insurance are key factors influencing the bank runs. However, the major drawback is considered to be the excessive risk banks were facing even before the stock market crash.
Estimating the quadratic almost ideal demand system and the effects of population ageing in the Czech Republic
Bílý, Michael ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to estimate the Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System of non-durable goods on the Czech Republic Household Budget Survey data in two distinct models. Respective income, own and cross price elasticities are calculated and we interpret the resulting income, price and demographic characteristics of the household demand. The first model is used to estimate the effects of the 2015 Value Added Tax reform in the Czech Republic, which introduced 10% reduced rate on medication and books. We estimate how much the reform changes the consumption behaviour of households, the biggest changes are in the commodities of clothing, books, medications and household goods. The households are estimated to spend 1,049 billion CZK more on non-durable goods and the VAT revenue is estimated to decrease by 818 million CZK. The second model is used to predict the effects of the population ageing on the household demand. We do this in four scenarios to separate effects of the household composition change and to analyse the composed effects of increasing wealth and redistribution among the working and retired households. The population ageing has the highest impact on the commodities of food, fuel and light, transport and leisure services. The shift in composition affects the consumption mostly in the same...
Comparison of CT (power) and standard venous port systems in long-term central venous access in outpatients
Hájek, Jan ; Krajina, Antonín (advisor) ; Ferda, Jiří (referee) ; Charvát, Jiří (referee)
Summary: Comparison of CT (power) and standard venous port systems in long-term central venous access in outpatients. The aim of our study was to evaluate benefit of use of portsystems during contrast enhanced CT examinations. We studied implantation of power port systems in short and middle time period and also compared the procedure to literature informations. We also studied benefit of power port implantation procedure done under sonographic and fluoroscopic navigation. Materials and methods: There were collected patients of two cooperating departments of interventional radiology. All our patients included in the study had implanted power port systems, the procedure was done by sonographic and fluoroscopic control. We studied periprocedural and late complications of the procedure. We also studied benefit of the power port for contrast enhanced CT follow up during oncologic therapy and frequency of port using by medical staff. We studied perception of implanted power port in our patients in their daily life. Results: The primary technical success of the procedure was 100 % and we had no postprocedural pneumothorax observed. The technique of implantation of ports and power ports is the same. The average follow up in our study is 291,5 days (2-294 days). Five patients died in follow up period 2-594 days....
Development of German Alpine Clubs in Czech Lands until 1938
Chaloupská, Pavlína ; Waic, Marek (advisor) ; Štumbauer, Jan (referee) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Mgr. Pavlína Chaloupská, abstrakt disertační práce Abstract: The thesis analyzes activities of the most important German Alpine clubs operating in the Czech Lands and interwar Czechoslovakia since their establishment until 1938. The history of alpine clubs is explained, and the organization of DuÖAV (Deutscher und Österreichischer Alpenverein, German and Austrian Alpine Association) is analysed, on the basis of general and specific introductory information related to the alpinism in the late 19th century. The thesis is divided according to geographical location of the constituent sections. For each section of DuÖAV, the circumstances of its establishment are monitored, the sphere of its activity is defined, the internal organization is described, and the economic functioning is analyzed. The activities of Alpine clubs in Bohemia and Alps are charted in detail, and based on the research it was discovered that the most important activity of the Alpine clubs was the construction of the Alpine huts, owned by German clubs from Bohemia. Among other activities there were organization of guiding and rescue operations, giving lectures, balls and excursions in their locality. Two chapters are devoted to the most important personalities of the German alpinism in the Czech lands: Johann Stüdl and Rudolf Kauschka.
Biological activity of antioxidant compounds in monocytes THP-1

Charles University in Prague University Roma Tre Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biology Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: Jan Hájek Supervisor: PharmDr. Iva Boušová, Ph.D. Prof. Sandra Incerpi, Prof. Jens Z. Pedersen Title of diploma thesis: Biological activity of antioxidant compounds in monocytes THP-1 Elaboration of this work is based on the experiments carried out in the Laboratory of Physiology at University Roma Tre in Rome, under the supervision of Prof. Sandra Incerpi. The team of this laboratory studies the antioxidants of different structures and evaluates their ability to prevent the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). These reactive species are essential for many physiological processes, but they can also have deleterious effects and participate in the development of various diseases. In this work, I dealt with a study of antioxidant properties of different polyphenolic compounds (mosloflavone, negletein, 5,6-dihydroxyflavone, baicalein, gallic acid, and compound 1625) in the cell culture of human monocytes THP-1 and also in the in vitro test. Three different methods were used: intracellular ROS determination (dichlorofluorescein assay), cytotoxicity assay, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). Mosloflavone showed scavenging...
Exchange Rate Pass - Through to Domestic Prices: The Case of the Czech Republic
Hájek, Jan ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Benčík, Daniel (referee)
In this thesis, we examine the exchange rate pass-through phenomenon in the Czech Re- public over 1998:1-2014:1 period. As our vector autoregression results indicate, short-term pass-through effect slowed down and prolongated its duration substantially. Consequently, the accumulated value to be transmitted increased compared to previous findings. In the case of exchange rate pass-through effect to CPI, the accumulated response after 18 months accounts for about 40-60 per cent. In this regard, our time-varying results using unique Chebyshev Time Polynomials points to period 2008-2014 to be the leading cause. It seems that during macroeconomically less stable periods the exchange rate pass-through in the Czech Republic tends to increase. Even though the consensus on the pass-through lev- els and its development over time is rather scarce, we find support for our conclusions. More interestingly, having in mind November's currency interventions of the Czech Na- tional Bank to weaken koruna (and thus avoiding deflation), our results reveal that this measure has become much more effective in the latest years (as consequence of the crisis) than previous literature suggested. Following up on that, it seems that exchange rate regained some of its rather historical importance while conducting monetary policy...
