The diploma thesis "Comparison of media agendas of the assassinations of Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Hitler" deals with research and description of entirely concrete press instructions application on a real content of legal Czech protectoral press. Based on a comparison between the press instructions and real media content, the diploma thesis describes mechanisms of press regulation and control of protectoral media on an example of daily newspapers "Národní politika". One part of the diploma thesis is this practical research which results from rich archive material of the National archive of the Czech Republic and from period press. An integral part of the diploma thesis is also a very various and comprehensive appendix which creates another sheaf of this diploma thesis.

Pilař, David ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
My diploma work concerns about the description of the purges among Czech journalist covering the period from April 1968 till December 1970. I focused on the situation in Czech media during the period after Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and tried to describe a personal constitution of editors offices including the reflection of political changes on them. I was also interested in how the media worked under political pressure and how they tried to avoid them at this time. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Eastern-Bohemian mass media in the beginning of normalization
Slováček, Petr ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
This thesis is chronologically related to the Bachelor's work ca11ed "Tumultuous Events in Eastern-Bohemian Mass-Media" and was pleaded for in the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Pardubice. The thesis deals with a role and position of regional journalists in years from 1968 up to 1969 and a manner of selection of new staff for vacant (journalistic) positions as well as effects of staff changes on work of regional mass-media and a Eastern-Bohemian branch of the Union of Czech Journalists. At the beginning of the period called "Normalization" the experienced and impartial journalists were excluded from mass-media because they declined to reduce themselves to the function of a political worker. The pressure brought by totalitarian power to bear on journalists was so much strong that every journalist had to knowingly accept a role of an agitator for the leading role of the (communistic) Party. If the journalist didn't submit he or she had to leave for non-journalistic jobs, mostly working jobs. The same development occurred in the regional mass-media as well as state-wide mass-media and a little bit later it happened to journalists (outside workers, sport columns) who hadn' t engaged in the year 1968 in respect to their specialization. In the first wave their...
Broadcasting deputy of Ministry of Enquiry 1945-1953
Holomek, Ondřej ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
Ministry of Enquiry represents a unique institution in the history of Czechoslovakia. During 1945-1953, it helped Communist Party of Czechoslovakia through its ideolocical activity in gaining political power. This work introduces very dynamic and interesting postwar era - a transition from one authoritarian to another, and the way communists effectively got key bodies and institutions under their control. Ministry of Enquiry is an evidence of a close connection between state and partial interest. Its main task was to gain control over public communication and to tailor this to the needs of the Communist Party. This piece of writing describes a connection between the most important contemporary mass-medium (broadcast) and state and partial bodies that influenced the broadcasting. Key body was the Ministry of Enquiry in this process. Yet before the political coup in February 1948, it managed to change the form of Czechoslovak Broadcast so much that the Broadcast supported Communist Party before, during and after the coup. In the following years, whole Czechoslovak society went under the control of Communist Party, which also influenced broadcasting even more. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Karel Lažnovský death as the beginning of revision of the protectorate journalist's role
Maxová, Zuzana ; Suk, Pavel (referee) ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor)
Diploma thesis " Karel Laznovsky's Death as the Beginning of Revision of the Protectorate Journalist's Role" deals with a group of protectorate journalists who collaborated with German occupying forces. It is focused on the death of one of the most significant activist journalist Karel Laznovsky, who died after the official audience with premier Alois Elias in October 1941. For a few days this case became a central subject matter of all protectorate newspapers. The German activism was present in their pages dramatically and the print propaganda was intensified a lot. The press identified the person of Karel Laznovsky as an exemplary journalist and therefore he became some sort of icon of journalistic activism. The thesis analyses articles that were published after the death of this collaborator and its ambition is to give a general definition of activist journalist in accordance with how he was described in legal protectorate press in those days. Thus it could contribute to better understanding of how the action of pro-German journalists was presented in legal newspapers, in what ways it was justified and how the journalistic profession was appreciated in general.
Media coverage of the self-immolation of Jan Palach in Rudé právo, Reportér and Zprávy
Kaňková, Kateřina ; Suk, Pavel (referee) ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor)
Diploma thesis Media coverage of the self-immolation of Jan Palach in Rude pravo, Reporter and Zpravy attempts to show how the ruling ideology influences the media coverage of an event by analyzing newspaper articles from three different periodicals (Rude pravo, Reporter, Zpravy). In this case, the event is Jan Palach's protest against the political and social situation in Czechoslovakia after the arrival of the Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968. Palach performed his protest in January 1969 inspired by the form of self-immolation displayed by Buddhist monks in Tibet. It appears that the political situation at that time can be characterized as a transformation from democracy to tatalitarianism. The official newspaper of the Communist Party Rude pravo was neither using censorship nor distorting reality. It captured the events essentially as they had been running, though there were no arguments or comments. The comparison of Rude pravo with the other two newspapers, Reporter, representing pro-reform democratic media, and Zpravy, representing totalitarian media, reveals the fact that articles in Rude pravo were neutral.
Media picture of Čihošť miracle throughout the times
Čížková, Petra ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Cuhra, Jaroslav (referee)
The event known as the miracle of Cihost happened in a small village Číhošť in the region of Havlickuv Brod at the end of 1949, beginning of 1950. A crucifix moved on the altar during a sermon. The event led to an investigation and the detention of local priest, Josef Toufar, by the State Secret Police. Father Toufar became one of the first victims of the newly established totalitarian regime. This work presents the case known as the miracle of Cihost over three historical periods. The first period is connected with the origin of the case, therefore the end of 1949, beginning of 1950, the second period, which deals with events in Cihost to a certain extent, is the reform year 1968 and the last period is represented by the velvet revolution in 1989 which changed the established manner of functioning of state apparatus in our country and during which time the existing media system also transformed. The aim of this work is to point out the differences in the interpretations of this case in separate historical periods as each period deals with the case in question very differently. Part of this project was an effort to point out the political and media situation in all of the presented periods. Political and media events had a significant influence on the interpretation of this case. For this reason, I have...
