Kravarová, Eva ; Papežová, Hana (advisor) ; Dragomirecká, Eva (referee) ; Stárková, Libuše (referee)
The doctoral dissertation is focused on the evaluation of the effect of bariatric surgery and on identifying the parameters that are related to the patients' satisfaction with the surgery. Telephone survey was used to collect data. 122 bariatric candidates were inquired, 86 of them were operated. The average time after the surgery was 20,2 months. The average weight loss was 26.6 kgs. There was a significant improvement in the monitored domains - physical appearance, general health, self-esteem, marital satisfaction, occupational functioning and social functioning. The negative effects of the surgery (post-surgery vomiting, difficulties in dietary adherence, other complications) were also experienced by significant number of patients. In total, 87% respondents were satisfied with the surgery and 13% were dissatisfied. The chi-square test was used to identify factors influencing subjective satisfaction with the surgery and the results were recorded at 95% and 99% significance levels. The satisfaction is associated with the improvement of general health and self-esteem (p<0.01), physical appearance, marital satisfaction, occupational functioning and social functioning (p<0.05). Less satisfied were patients who had troubles with postoperative dietary adherence and those with an insufficient weight...

MUDr. Lucie Motlová Bankovská, Ph.D. Serious mental illness has an impact not only on the quality of life of the mentally ill person but also on his family. In the near past the family was mainly seen as the one to blame for the mental illness or a cause of stress and relapse. Today the role of the family as a carer and the need to cooperate with he family is emphasised. Professionals are trying to find ways to help relatives to cope with their situation. Families may find support and help in self help organizations, in family therapy or psychoeducation or other family based interventions. In the theoretical part of this work I shortly described the problematic of deintitucionalization of psychiatric care, changes in the concept of family as a risk factor for the genesis or progress of mental illness, the role of the family in treatment and rehabilitation, caregiver burden and needs of the family members of people with mental illness. (English) This diploma thesis deals with the issue of mental disorders and services provided to family members of people with mental disorder within a non-profit sector. The first part includes theoretical chapters which are processed by analysing available literature. The chapters inform about mental disorder, quality of life, and describe the care of people with mental disorders - particularly social skills and communication, housing, education, employment and leisure time. The theoretical part also focuses on social work with the mentally ill and includes a role of a social worker. In conclusion, the theoretical part describes the possibilities of supporting family members within the system of the care of persons with mental disorder, especially educational and psychoeducational programmes. The empirical part maps the current range of services for family members of people with mental disorder, and in connection with that, it determines what workers consider to be their benefit. Then, the views of family members on the psychoeducational programme and the current system of taking care of persons with mental illness were examined in a parent organization. To implement the research, I chose a qualitative approach. The method used was a questionnaire survey and group interviews. The results showed...

Dragomirecká, Eva ; Srnec, Jan (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (referee)
The aim of this study is to investigate which factors are related to the quality of life of the elderly in the Czech Republic. In the first part of the work we summarized current findings about the ageing, particularly from demographical, sociological and psychopathological perspectives. Farther we discussed the concept of quality of life and research of quality of life in the elderly. In the second research part we analysed data from a representative sample of 325 older adults living in Prague that we collected as a part of the cross-cultural project "The Measurement of Quality of Life in Older Adults and its Relationship to Healthy Ageing". Set of instruments included the quality of life assessments (WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD), the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), The Attitudes to Ageing Questionnaire AAQ and Socio-demographic form. To identify determinants of various aspects of quality of life we ran regression analyses separately for each of the six WHOQOL-OLD and four WHOQOL-BREF dimensions. The strongest predictor across all quality of life dimensions was depression. The results confirm the importance of interventions and programmes promoting psychological well-being and preventing depressing in the elderly.
