Landscape permeability in context of it's fragmentation by traffic and suburbanization
Štambergová, Barbora ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Landscape permeability is currently significantly decreasing mainly due to anthropogenic barriers - transportation infrastructure and sub/urban development. The construction of these barriers has various environmental impacts on animals that differ among taxa. Ensuring a certain degree of permeability of the landscape is crucial for the survival of many species of organisms. Effective tools for the planning protection and restoration of the permeability of the landscape are series of models, whose theoretical framework and practical use are described in this thesis. The practical part deals with the modeling of changes in landscape permeability in the southern hinterlands of Prague. The effectiveness of the implemeted mitigation measures is also evaluated. Keywords: landscape fragmentation, landscape permeability, ecoducts, mitigation measures, suburbanization
Energetic utilisation of biomass - controversial environmental topic
Zumrová, Kateřina ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bartoš, Jan (referee)
The thesis is focused on energetic utilisation of biomass. It was used a qualitative research and document analysis of articles. The first part deals with the theoretical framework, therefore definitions and possibilities of biomass utilisation. The second part contains methodology, follows research and its evaluation. The first aim of this thesis is to summarize the utilisation of biomass as renewable energy and to distinguish positive and negative impacts of the utilisation of this source and evaluate its economic efficiency. There are several possibilities of utilisation of biomass, but it is necessary to select the suitable process and its utilisation. Based on the large number of examples from life it can be stated that it is economically efficient. The second aim is to identify main misconceptions related to utilisation of biomass. The main misconception is comparing the utilisation of solar energy, which has not left positive attitude of people to renewable energy, with utilisation of biomass. There are few examples of comparing photovoltaic with utilisation of biomass on the same level. In regard of the basic principles of utilisation of biomass, those two sources cannot be compared at all, they are not similar. Another misconception is apprehension of appropriation of land used for growing energy...
Evaluation of complex geographic excursion - Vinařická horka using a tablet
Hájková, Kateřina ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kocová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis analyses data from both qualitative and quantitative research on the positives and negatives of field education with tablets. An indispensable part is an assessment of the premise that education with tablets affects the attitudes of pupils to geography (whether positively or negatively) and to natural sciences in general. The thesis further summarises important ideas of students and teachers in primary and secondary schools. The conclusion evaluates whether the current emphasis of the media on the inclusion of tablets into education is justified.
Comparison of model protected areas - evaluation of the quality and connectivity of habitats
Hrdina, Aleš ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the biodiversity hotspots - high biodiversity areas with a large proportion of endemic species, which also has already lost a significant part of its natural habitat. The historical development of the biodiversity hotspots concept is described, all 34 hotspots is characterized, species diversity and endemism of plants and animals, potential natural vegetation is analysed, as well as threats, anthropogenic impact and conservation considering protected areas, categories I-IV areas of the IUCN protected areas management system, and national parks. A complete digital vector database of national parks was created. Qualitative importance of each hotspot is evaluated using the Myers method and areas of the world with the highest conservation priority are identified. Keywords: biodiversity hotspots, habitat quality, protected areas, national parks
Geographical fieldwork: transmissive and constructivist approach to fieldwork in the Hvozdnice region
Skazíková, Pavla ; Hanus, Martin (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis compares the constructivistic with transmissive geography tuition approach on Hvozdnice region model. The teoretical part defines field work, the didactic learning theories and focuses on closer description and comparison the constructivistic with transmissive pedagogical approach. The practical part brings a complete geographical characteristics of the specified area and subsequently SWOT analysis which provided crucial issues and generalization of the proposed field work worksheets. The proposed worksheets of the work field which deal with exploring of the local region are created in two variants- constructivistic and transmissive. Although there was no change in the thematic focus of the worksheets, there is the obvious difference between realization and achieving the objectives which is based on philosophy of each of the selected models of learning. Keywords: field work, local region, constructivism, transmission, geographical characteristics, region Hvozdnice, worksheets, guidelines
GEOMORPHOLOGICAL TERMS IN THE CONTERPORARY CZECH TEXTBOOK FOR HIGHER CLASSES OF SECONDARY GRAMMER SCHOOLS AND HIGH SCHOOLS
Lukášová, Vendula ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
With a various geomorphological terms meets each of us, for everybody it is good to know at least a basic geomorphological terms. In Czech schools geomorphology is taught in geography. This work studies the geomorphological terms in Czech secondary school geographical textbooks. The aim of this work was to evaluate textbooks in terms of quantity, but also quality of geomorphological terms. Selected books were from year 1989 till today, had different topics and they were designed for different types of secondary schools. The book evaluation was based on several criteria, subsequently was made a simple statistical analysis. The results of the work can help middle-school teachers to decide for the right textbook used for teaching geomorphology. Keywords: geomorphological terms, textbooks, evaluation.
The design and realization of a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography and the tool evaluation
Plevová, Petra ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to create a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography at a grammar school, which is based on several criteria. The tool is then tested in practice and its impact on students' geographical knowledge is evaluated. The work is conceptually divided into two main parts. The first of them introduces fieldwork as is generally known and construed, because the tool is based on some of the fieldwork principles and is realized outside the school building. An analysis of Czech curricular documents is not omitted in the text. The second, more voluminous part deals with practical issues. The main part presents a concept of a particular field teaching and a description of its following implementation. Subsequently, a tool, which was used to measure the effectiveness of the realized fieldwork, is described in the text. The results of the survey and the overall assessment are concluded at the end of this thesis. Key words: tool - geography - Geography field teaching - effectiveness - testing
Assessment of landscape fragmentation in relation to long-distance migration
Šťovíčková, Kateřina ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the fragmentation of the landscape as a result of highway infrastructure and human settlement. The aim is to analyze the current level of fragmentation and permeability of the landscape for large mammals in the region of Moravska Brana, which is a significant migration area between the West Carpathian and Hercynian sub-provinces. The results confirm the increased degree of fragmentation in this area due to the accumulation of several line barriers from the Northeast to the Southwest, and it particularly shows the negative impact of Highway D1. By comparing the degree of fragmentation with supra- regional corridors, this thesis evaluates the Territorial system of ecological stability (TSES) and the habitat model of large carnivores. This thesis shows that the current migration corridors provide only a fragmented landscape with unsuitable habitat. While making a comprehensive analysis of the permeability of the D1 motorway, the effectiveness of the migration corridor between Klimkovice and Dolni Ujezd was evaluated with an emphasis on monitoring the ecoduct of Suchdol nad Odrou, which is used primarily by medium-sized mammals. The results show that large mammals in this area have found the most appropriate migration corridor a long elevated road through the river valleys. Key...
