Matice česká in modern period. Publishing activity in late 19th century.

Bachelor thesis reminds long history of Matice česká and precauditions od its operation at late 19th century. In the centre of concern is first of all publishing policy, in the view of interest should also come personality, who make direction of the publishing house. The thesis is based on the rich and not yet extracted archives fund of Matice česká. Based on the study of the literature and archive sources the thesis will approximate editions and solo published books, will talk about financy policy and make clear the editorial praxis. On the background of historical circumstances the thesis monitores changes in the Corp of Matice, and consequences which it made.
Hořice: Public life in town 1860-1868

The work examines the public life in the town Hořice during years 1860 to 1868. The main purpose of this bachelor work is presentation of the activity of local authority and reactions of people on public events which were happened in the Austrian Empire during 1860 to 1868. The main events were the restoration constitutional life in the Austrian Empire, the Austro- Prussian War, the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, the foundation stone of the National Theatre in Prague and meetings of the people. The Type of Publicly-Active Family of Prague City-Dwellers at The Turn of 19th and 20th Century. The Case of John and Ann Podlipný.

The thesis intends to show, using the specific example of Jan and Anna Podlipný, a typical Prague family active in public life on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Both the public activities and the private lives of the married couple are described. The thesis introduces the family of both Podlipnýs, particular focus being on the free time activities of the family members; home theatre is of special importance in this context. The core of the thesis is a discussion of the public activities of Jan and Anna Podlipný. Public life of Jan Podlipný is divided in his work for the Prague administration and in various interest groups. Emphasis is placed on years 1897-1900 when he was the mayor of Prague; the thesis also partially discusses his work as a lawyer and a member of the Young Czech Party. Podlipný is also introduced as a member of the Sokol union, the first head of the Czech Sokol Community and a member of the Society for the Construction of a Monument of Master Jan Hus. Podlipný's efforts in the cooperation between Sokol and the Union of French Gymnasts are also mentioned, and briefly also the other organisations he was active in. Anna Podlipná is introduced primarily as a wife and a mother. Emphasis is placed on her activities in the Domácnosť (Household) and České srdce (Czech Heart)...

The study delineates a picture of the woman writer, Růžena Svobodová, as an example of possible realization of a woman in the Czech society at the turn of 19th and 20th century. The woman writer, Růžena Svobodová, is introduced here in her many activities. Attention is paid to her works of fiction, in which she views the picture of contemporary woman and her position in society. The study reveals also the area of the woman writer's literary salon and summarizes its influence on the Prague society at the turn of 19th and 20th century. Included is also a portrait of Růžena Svobodová the woman journalist, which so far has been a neglected area. The study contains also a view of the woman writer's activities in the Czech Heart charitable organisation operating during World War I.

This thesis deals with archivist and collage professor Václav Vojtíšek. It's structured chronologically with few thematic areas and was written mainly by positivistic method. Thesis draws from large base of archive resources and published materials. The goal of this thesis is to map Vojtíšek's academical and archivistic career during several regimes. It's not only concentrating on his professional career, but also depicts biographical themes. AAbbssttrraakktt This diploma thesis deals with historical development of village Solopysky situated 12 kilometers from Kutná Hora in Central Bohemia. In the paper is reflected interwar period from 1918 to 1938 which brought a lot of turning points. There is described influence of those milestones on local inhabitants (e.g. establishment of first Czechoslovakia republic, Munich Agreement). Administrative area of this thesis is focused on mechanisms of operation, organization, structure, personnel management, power and municipal governments' activities. Attention is paid to the then legislation and its introduction into practice. The author tries to clarify tendencies of the municipal economy including municipal budget and dealing with the municipal property. Cultural area of this thesis is focused on school environment, activities of local associations and on the political activities including municipal elections. There is also mentioned description of daily life and atmosphere of the village according to the memories of the local old resident - Mr. Václav Sova. Písek - transformation of local identity in the modernization process (1861-1914)

In the theoretical part of this thesis are discussed concepts of collective memory created by Maurice Halbwachs, Pierre Nora and Jan Assmann, the author considers them inspiring for the research about forming of collective identity. Case study is given to the South Bohemian town of Pisek and the changing of its identity in the second half of the 19th century. It gives an overview of available sources and detailed biographies of people, who were most important for the forming of local identity. By using the analysis of dictionary entries are recognized basic attributes of local identity and their various forms, focusing particularly on process of modernization. The thesis focuses on the life of a catholic priest Josef Liboslav Ziegler in the first half of the 19th century. An emphasis is put on his patriotism efforts in East Bohemia, the region where he was active. A significant part of his work was editing Czech periodicals, which were the meeting point for East Bohemian authors. His translations into the Czech language are important as well. The sekond part of the thesis concerns itself with Zieglers "second life" or the perception and interpretation of his life by the succeeding generation. The research is based on Zieglers extant correspondence and periodicals as well as literature concerning the Czech patriotic movement in the first half of the 19th century. Propaganda strategy of Austrian Empire during the war 1809 ( with special view to Bohemian countries)

This work presents the Austrian state propaganda in the Czech lands in the background development of French-Austrian war, which culminated in 1809. The main intention is to try and analyze the performance of the anti-napoleonic campaign in the context of political-administrative changes accompanying the emergence Austrian state Landwehr after the battle of Austerlitz. The study also outlines the thematic definition of contemporary propaganda that has become a significant representation of the contemporary state ideology. There are also presents media, means and ways in which the war ideology was disseminated around the monarchy. Content analysis of the propaganda messages is based on material originating mostly from Czech authors. Part of the thesis deals with the organizational structure and the campaign tactics that were used by promoters to influence public opinion. A special space is devoted to the pursuit of understanding the role of Czech patriots in the state propaganda and the importance of propaganda campaign for further development of the Czech national revival. The final chapter then provides answers to questions reception of propaganda, as it could be perceived broad social layers.
