Práce se zabývá americkou imigrační politikou vůči nelegální migraci z Mexika během funkčního období prezidenta George W. Bushe a snaží se odpovědět na otázku, zda se výrazně odlišovala od předchozích let, a na kolik tuto problematiku ovlivnily teroristické útoky z 11. září 2001. Zároveň práce přibližuje důvody, proč je přijetí komplexní imigrační reformy pro Spojené státy tak problematické. Aby bylo možné odpovědět na tyto otázky, analyzuje práce vztah americké společnosti k imigraci a charakterizuje motivy hlavních zájmových skupin a politických stran ve vztahu k tomuto problému. The dissertation deals with immigration policy of the United States toward illegal immigration from Mexico during the presidency of George W. Bush. It aims to answer the question whether the policy had at all changed when compared to the previous administrations, and whether the terrorist attacks from 9/11 had any effect on the issue. The paper also discusses reasons why comprehensive immigration reform has not been accepted yet. In order to answer those questions, the thesis analyzes American perception of immigrants and characterizes interests of pressure groups and political parties in immigration.
