Evropská unie se jiţ několik let zabývá problémem velkého počtu kuřáku mezi evropským obyvatelstvem. K této problematice vydává direktivy zakazující reklamu tabákových výrobků a kouření na veřejných místech. Přijímáním těchto zákonů Velká Británie bojuje se svou spotřebou cigaret od konce devadesátých let společně s další politikou zvyšováním daní a informativními kampaněmi. V této práci se zabývám několika ekonometrickými přístupy k zjištění, do jaké míry spotřební daň z cigaret ovlivňuje v posledních patnácti letech spotřebu cigaret. V druhém modelu pracuji s dalšími proměnnými, jako jsou zákaz reklamy, výdaje na léčbu závislosti, zaměstnanost, HDP, populace. Výsledky poukazují na největší vliv zákazu reklamy, zákazu kouření a zaměstnanosti. The European Union has been solving for years the problem of huge number of smokers among European population. The EU is creating laws banning advertising of tobacco products and smoking in public places. United Kingdom is struggling against consumption of cigarettes through ratifying these laws since late nineties, together with another policy of increasing taxes and informative campaigns. In this thesis I am describing several econometric approaches in this paper in order to find how big is the effect of excise tax on consumption of cigarette in past 15 years. In the second model I included other variables such as ban of advertisement, expenditures on treatment of addicts, employment, GDP, population. The results show that the most significant variables are the ban of advertisement, the ban of smoking and the employment.
