Pomocí ultrakrátkých laserových pulzů lze poměrně snadno obrábět skleněné materiály s téměř neomezenou tvarovou složitostí. Takto obrobené plochy by mohly sloužit jako zakázková free form optika. Současnou hlavní překážkou je (pro optické aplikace) vysoká drsnost povrchu po laserovém obrábění Sa cca 400 nm. Testována byla úprava povrchu pomocí suspenze abraziva hnaného oscilačním pohybem nádobky. Ačkoli bylo dosaženo určitého zlepšení textury povrchu, pro reálné použití bude nutné metodu dále rozvíjet. Using ultrashort laser pulses, glass materials with almost unlimited shape complexity can be machined relatively easily. Such machined surfaces could serve as custom free form optics. The current main obstacle (for optical applications) is the high surface roughness after laser machining Sa of about 400 nm. Surface treatment using a suspension of abrasive driven by oscillating motion of the container was tested. Although some improvement in surface texture was achieved, the method will need to be further developed for real applications.
