Integral membrane proteins (IMPs) undergo extensive quality control (QC) within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to maintain ER proteostasis and the integrity of the ER proteome. ER-associated ribosome quality control (ER-RQC) responds to ribosome stalls during translocation and helps "de-clog" blocked translocon. ER-associated degradation (ERAD) targets misfolded IMPs for proteasomal degradation. ERAD-resistant IMPs are degraded by different ER-phagic pathways, collectively referred to as ELRAD (ER-to-lysosome associated degradation). Coordination of these mechanisms is facilitated by the unfolded protein response (UPR), although UPR receptors are most likely not activated by aberrant IMPs, as all these mechanisms function in the QC of ER-luminal proteins. Integrální membránové proteiny (IMP) procházejí rozsáhlou kontrolou kvality (QC) v endoplazmatickém retikulu (ER), aby se udržela proteostáza a integrita proteomu ER. Ribosomální kontrola kvality proteinů asociovaná s ER (ER-ribosome-associated protein quality control; ER-RQC) reaguje na zastavení ribozomů během translokace a pomáhá uvolnit ucpaný translokon. Degradace proteinů asociovaná s ER (ER-associated degradation; ERAD) cílí špatně sbalené IMP k proteasomální degradaci. IMP odolné vůči ERAD jsou degradovány pomocí různých ER-fagických drah, souhrně označovaných jako ELRAD (ER-to-lysosome associated degradation). Koordinaci těchto mechanismů zajišťuje odpověď na špatně sbalené proteiny (unfolded protein response, UPR), ačkoli receptory UPR nejsou s největší pravděpodobností aktivovány aberantními IMP, protože všechny tyto mechanismy fungují i jako mechanismy kontroly kvality ER-luminárních proteinů.
