[eng][cze] Abstract This study is about the connection between the types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and their effects on employee performance. The thesis is an extensive research on the campus of the University of Ghana together with a review of the work of other scholars. In prior research on this subject led by Vroom (1964) it was presumed that a positive relationship between motivation and employee performance was non-existent. Be that as it may, later researches demonstrated that it is a possibility indeed to motivate employees intrinsically and extrinsically to perform to their maximum best, and that employee motivation and job performance are decidedly related (Petty et al., 1984). Those latter theories proved that when organizations put the right measures in place, employees are naturally propelled to repay management with improved performance. This perceived relationship is investigated in this thesis and the idea is to provide valuable information to stakeholders in the management of public universities in Ghana, especially the University of Ghana, to help make informed decisions on junior staff employees in these institutions. At the end, the researcher makes useful policy recommendations to management of public universities in Ghana to help forestall the possibility of industrial actions, which have plagued the Ghana labour market from hitting the country’s few public universities.Abstrakt Tato práce je zaměřena na souvislost mezi typy motivací, vnitřní a vnější motivací a jejich dopady na výkon zaměstnanců. Práce prochází rozsáhlým výzkumem na Univerzitě v Ghaně společně s přehledem prací ostatních kolegů. V předběžném výzkumu na toto téma vedeným Vroom (1964) se předpokládalo, že pozitivní vztah mezi motivací a výkonem zaměstnanců neexistoval. Novější výzkumy prokázaly že je skutečně možné motivovat zaměstnance vnitřně i zevně a tím zlepšit jejich výkonnost motivace zaměstnanců a pracovní výkon jsou rozhodně související (Petty et al., 1984). Tyto poslední teorie dokázaly, že pokud organizace zavedou správná opatření, jsou zaměstnanci přirozeně motivování k lepším výsledkům které vede k zlepšeným výkonům. Tyto vztahy byly zkoumaný v této diplomové práci a myšlenkou je poskytnout cenné informace zúčastněným stranám v řízení veřejných vysokých škol v Ghaně, zejména v Ghanské univerzitě, aby pomohly při informovaném rozhodování o zaměstnancích mladých zaměstnanců v těchto institucích. Na konec, práce dělám užitečná doporučení k řízení veřejných vysokých škol v Ghaně, abych pomohl zabránit možností protestních akcí, které trápily pracovní trh v Ghaně a několik univerzit v zemi.
