Předkládaná rigorózní práce si klade za cíl představit vývoj židovského etnika v německém jazykovém prostorou, dále pak zmapovat a přiblížit jeho účast v obou světových válkách, ve kterých jeho zástupci bojovali nejprve v armádách centrálních mocností, později pak na straně Třetí říše. Vedle chronologie válečných událostí je zde popsán především strukturální vývoj německých a rakouských ozbrojených sil s ohledem na židovské etnikum obou zemí a jejich výkon vojenské služby od okamžiku zavedení všeobecné branné povinnosti až do německé kapitulace v květnu 1945. Velmi podrobně je zde zmapováno a popsáno sčítání Židů v německé armádě, zahájené 1. listopadu 1916, i jeho politické důsledky v poválečných letech. V kontextu vývoje Velkoněmecké říše a německých Židů je zde představen a popsán komplex nacistických diskriminačních právních norem i jejich vazba na německou brannou moc. Práce dále obsahuje krátké osobní příběhy vybraných židovských válečných veteránů z první i druhé světové války, doplněné řadou osobních informací, čerpaných převážně z vojenských archivů. Práce je rozdělena do několika částí. Úvodní část zahrnuje stručnou historii židovského etnika v německy mluvících zemích střední a východní Evropy od středověku až po 18 století, s důrazem na vývoj Pruska a Rakouska. The main aim of this thesis is to introduce the development of the Jewish ethnic group within German language area, also to map and describe their involvement in both world wars in which their representatives had fought, first in the armies of central powers, and later in the army of the Third Reich. Besides chronology of war occurrences, there is a description of structural development of the German and Austrian armed forces with regard to the Jewish ethnic group of both countries and their performance of military service from the moment of introduction of general compulsory military service until the German capitulation in May 1945. This work gives a very detailed description of census of the Jews in German army that began on 1st November 1916 and also of its political consequences in post-war years. In the context of the Third Reich and the German Jews development, the complex of Nazi discriminatory legal standards and their link to the German military power are introduced and described here. This thesis also contains short personal stories of chosen Jewish war veterans of the first and Second World War that are complemented with a lot of personal information obtained mostly from military archives.
