Panelové domy na socialistických sídlištích patří v Česku mezi dominantní formy bydlení. Po dokončení výstavby se na nová sídliště stěhovaly především mladé rodiny s dětmi, následný vývoj složení obyvatelstva však nebyl na všech sídlištích stejný. K jejich diferencovanému vývoji přispěly výraznou měrou i velké společenské změny po Sametové revoluci. Cílem této práce je popsat celkovou proměnu pražských a ostravských sídlišť mezi lety 1970-2011 z hlediska věkové struktury jejich obyvatelstva, najít rozdíly mezi zmíněnými městy a identifikovat hlavní vývojové trajektorie jednotlivých sídlišť. Pro analýzu byla využita popisná statistika a dále pokročilejší metody analýzy reprezentované lokalizačními kvocienty a sekvenční analýzou. Výsledky ukázaly, že sídlištní populace byla zpočátku velmi mladá, v dalších desetiletích však intenzivně stárne. Ostravská sídliště jsou po celou dobu existence mladší než pražská, postupně se však celky v obou městech vyrovnávají. U početné skupiny sídlišť je patrná tendence ke stabilizaci věkové struktury na úrovni struktury celého města. Mainly young families with children were moving into new housing estates right after their construction was completed, but the following development of residents' composition wasn't the same in all housing estates. Significant social changes after the Velvet Revolution contributed greatly to the differentiation of housing estates' development. This paper aims to describe overall changes of housing estates in Prague and Ostrava between 1970 and 2011 in terms of age structure, to find differences between both cities and to identify main trajectories of housing estates' development. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis as well as more advanced analytical methods represented by location quotients and sequence analysis. The results show that population of housing estates was very young at the beginning, but has aged significantly in the following decades. Housing estates in Ostrava have always been younger than the ones in Prague, however, they are gradually equalizing. Large number of housing estates has had tendency to stabilize their age structure in the same form as the structure of the whole city.
