V důsledku klimatických změn dnes lesnictví čelí překotným změnám prostředí, jejichž vyvrcholením jsou kůrovcové kalamity. Více než kdy dříve je dnes třeba mít o lesích kvalitní informace, aby bylo možné zavádět účinná adaptační opatření na měnící se podmínky. Znalost historie umožňuje pochopit současnou situaci a lépe o les pečovat. Metodika přehledně shrnuje, jak informace o lesní historii získat a využít. Podává úvod do studia archiválií v českých archivech a poskytuje návod pro samostatné studium. Zaměřuje se na popis archivní sítě v České republice, seznamuje s archivními pomůckami a archivní terminologií. Dále uvádí důležité online databáze a radí, jak postupovat při práci v archivu a při práci s historickými prameny. Nakonec představuje příklad využití archivních materiálů na rozsáhlé databázi LONGWOOD, obsahující data o moravských a slezských lesích. As a result of climate change, forestry has to deal with rapid changes of the environment. This has recently culminated in bark beetle calamities. More than ever before, there is a need for quality information about forests in order to implement effective adaptation measures to changing conditions. Knowledge of history allows us to understand the current situation and manage forests better. This methodology summarizes how to obtain and use the information on forest history. It provides an introduction to the study of archival materials in Czech archives and provides instructions for independent work. It focuses on the description of the archival network in the Czech Republic, introduces archival aids and archival terminology. It also lists important online databases and advises on how to proceed when working in the archive and when working with historical sources. Finally, the LONGWOOD database, containing large amounts of data on Moravian and Silesian forests is presented as an example of the use of archival materials.
