Knižnímu sběratelství se Arne Laurin (1889-1945), novinář a šéfredaktor deníku Prager Presse, věnoval téměř celý svůj život až do emigrace z Československa v roce 1939. Nejvíce proslul svojí sbírkou novinářské literatury, která se po válečných peripetiích a po Laurinově smrti dostala do fondu knihovny dnešní Fakulty sociálních věd Univerzity Karlovy. Ve své době si novinářská knihovna získala věhlas mj. na základě sedmi tištěných katalogů, které Laurin vydal v letech 1931-1937 jako bibliofilské tisky. Knihovna celá a zejména pak její historický fond tisků do roku 1860 obsahuje kromě bohemik převážně zahraniční literaturu německé, francouzské, anglické, švédské, též nizozemské, švýcarské, polské, maďarské a další tiskařské provenience. Diplomová práce se věnuje historickému fondu, kde sleduje provenienční znaky jak z doby Laurinova vlastnictví, tak starší. Dále se věnuje hlavním knihovnickým tématům, jako jsou akvizice, katalog, stavění fondu a přístupnost knihovny, a v neposlední řadě mapuje osud sbírky po Laurinově emigraci až do současnosti. Z hlediska knižního sběratelství zasazuje Laurinovu osobnost do širšího kontextu. Until his emigration from Czechoslovakia in 1939, the journalist and editor-in-chief of the daily Prager Presse, Arne Laurin (1889-1945), devoted almost his entire life to book collecting. He is most famous for his collection of journalistic literature which, after the vicissitudes of war and Laurin's death, became part of the library of the present-day Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University. In its time, the journalistic library earned great renown, among other things, thanks to the seven printed catalogues that Laurin published in 1931-1937 as bibliophile prints. In addition to Bohemian books, the library as a whole, and especially its historical collection of prints up to 1860, contains mostly foreign literature of German, French, English, Swedish, Dutch, Swiss, Polish, Hungarian and other print provenience. The thesis focuses on the historical items in which it traces provenience characteristics from the period of Laurin's ownership as well as earlier ones. It also discusses major library issues such as acquisitions, cataloguing, library creation and library accessibility, and last but not least, it traces the fate of the collection after Laurin's emigration up to the present day. In terms of book collecting, it places Laurin's personality in a broader context.
