Rostliny jsou opylovány různě širokými spektry opylovačů. O rostlinách, které jsou navštěvovány širokým spektrem opylovačů mluvíme jako o generalizovaných. Existuje řada procesů vedoucí ke generalizovanému spektru opylovačů. Mezi ně patří nejen morfologické predispozice rostliny, ale také kontext prostředí, nabídka možných opylovačů a kompetice rostlin o ně. Nicméně sázka na široké spektrum opylovačů s sebou nese potenciální riziko, protože přínos jednotlivých skupin opylovačů k reprodukci rostliny se výrazně liší. Generalizovanost spektra opylovačů rostlin představují velice flexibilní cestu, jak se vyrovnat s měnícími se podmínkami a dospět tak k zdárnému rozmnožení i ve značně neprediktabilních podmínkách. Konkrétní opylovací systémy se v rámci rostlinné říše mění a pro dopad generalizace na jejich úspěšnost vyvstává potřeba po více studiích, které se jimi budou do detailu zabývat. Plants pollinated by a wide spectrum of pollinators are called generalized plants. There are many factors leading to the generalized strategy of plants including their morphology, environment context, local pollinator community, and competition between plants for effective pollinators. However, generalization is connected to potential risk because not all pollinators are equally efficient and effective. The Generalization of plants is a very flexible way how to deal with non-predictable conditions and achieve successful sexual reproduction. Further investigation is needed to understand how the generalization of plant-pollinator spectra shapes plants sexual reproduction.
