Assuming that it is required to account for the effect of non-uniform fluid flow in the~shell space and; an improvement of 7 % in the flow distribution of the medium. The composite modelling system that is presented in this thesis allows to quickly and accurately identify the weak points of the classical process equipment design. The methods used; are also sufficiently accurate. The thesis concludes by outlining further directions for the development of a composite modelling system as part of a comprehensive framework for the so-called low-cost modelling of fired equipment for the process industry.; are computationally simple and; as shown by comparison with commercial software; at the same time; current industrial practice pays very limited attention to predicting such conditions; focusing on devices operating in the convective heat transfer regime and without phase change of the working fluids. The proposed composite modelling system interferes with traditional computational procedures at two levels -- in determining the non-uniform flow distribution of the working fluids and its subsequent impact on the heat transfer in the device. Their capabilities and limitations are discussed in an extensive overview of available computational methods and approaches for predicting and analysing convection heat exchangers' flow and heat distribution. Following this analysis; i.e.; in the area of the initial design; mainly in the troubleshooting analysis of the equipment operational problems and in the area of detailed numerical analyses of final designs. On the contrary; measured data are not available; namely the linear change of the distributor height. Especially for the geometry with optimised modification; Non-uniform flow distribution is a state in which the local temperature or velocity extremes can significantly affect the operation of the equipment. Nevertheless; selected models are examined in detail. The non-uniformity of the fluid flow distribution in the tubular space of an apparatus with standard cylindrical headers is determined utilising a differential 1D model. In equipment whose chambers have a non-constant cross-section; the composite modelling system uses data from a generalised CFD simulation of fluid flow in wide ducts. The information on the distribution of the working fluids is then used by the adapted matrix model for 2D heat transfer analysis in the equipment. Furthermore; the modifications made to the employed computational methods are presented in this thesis. Selected industrial cases illustrate the accuracy and applicability of the developed models. Another research area described in the thesis is the management of the flow by modifying the shape of the dividing header; this issue is strongly neglected; very good results have been achieved; which complement the traditional thermal-hydraulic calculations of tubular cross-flow heat exchangers; which negatively affects the reliability of the final equipment. This thesis presents a composite modelling system that systematically and efficiently incorporates the flow distribution prediction into the computational procedures
