Rostislav Čevela, Ph.D. ABSTRAKT Světová zdravotnická organizace definuje zdravotní gramotnost jako "…poznávací a společenské dovednosti, které určují motivaci a schopnost lidí získávat, pochopit a využít zdravotní informace k podpoře svého zdraví." V současnosti dochází k velkému rozvoji informací i v této oblasti, ale tyto informace bývají často neodborné a protichůdné. Mateřská centra se svými programy jsou vhodným místem pro rozvoj zdravotní gramotnosti. Od roku 1992, kdy u nás vzniklo první mateřské centrum došlo k velkému rozvoji těchto organizací. Nyní zastřešující organizace Síť mateřských center, která má na svých stránkách heslo: "Ruka, která hýbe kolébkou, hýbe celým světem.", sdružuje více než 330 mateřských center. Toto heslo lze přetransformovat v rovině zdravotní gramotnosti "zdravá rodina = zdravá společnost". Klienty mateřských center se stávají často již ženy gravidní a návštěvnost se týká především rodin s malými dětmi přes prarodiče, což je vhodné prostředí pro primární prevenci v oblasti komplexního přístupu ke zdraví.
