Následná krátká válka, které historie přiřkla jméno pruskorakouská, znamenala pro Vídeň katastrofu. I přesto, že na své straně měla všechny větší německé státy: Bavorsko, Wtirttembersko, Bádensko, Sasko, Hannoversko, Kurhesensko, Hesensko-Darmstadt, vyvrcholila zdrcující porážkou rakouské armády u Hradce Králové 3. července 1866. Příměří uzavřené 26. července 1866 v Mikulově bylo stvrzeno konečnou mírovou smlouvou podepsanou 23. srpna 1866 v Praze. Rakousko přes vojenské úspěchy v severní Itálii ztratilo nejen své postavení v Německu, ale i poslední zbytky panství na apeninském poloostrově. Pro Itálii znamenal zisk Benátska dovršení sjednocovacího procesu a naopak pro Prusko znamenalo vytlačení Rakouska z Německa první a ten nejdůležitější krok k jednotě: "Německá císařská koruna byla vyhrána na bitevním poli u Hradce Králové a nikoli před Paříží". 351 Jeho vrcholem bylo vyhlášení Německého císařství ve Versailles 18. ledna 187l. Rakouská vláda se po prohrané válce zaměřila na uspořádání rozháraných vnitropolitických záležitostí. Rezignovala na federalistické koncepce hraběte Belcrediho a vsadila na rychlé jednání s uherskými elitami. Nemalý podíl na úspěšném výsledku rozhovorů měl 1 nový ministr zahraničí baron Beust. Dne 12. června 1867 vydán zákonný článek XII. - uherský zákon o rakousko-uherském... Aust ria's influence in Germany was constant for some centuries during the existence of the Holy Roman Empi re and it 's leadership which it had maintained in the new founded German Confederation in 1815. Transformat ion had come about in the 1860s when would Prussia through an aggressive pol icy increase the hegemonig proportions by abolishing the Aust rian-led Confederation and Berl in would come to realize their ambitions for expansion and annexing all of the German states. The Austro- Prussian crisis of 1866 arosed from the disputed fate of the Elbe Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. The first chapter consists of zhe German Confederation evolution founded in 1815 upon the ruins of the old Holy Roman Empi re. In the second consequential chapter main attention was paid to economic development in Germany and it 's Uni fication in the Customs Union. The thi rd chapter describes the clashes between Prussia and Austria in the beginning of the 1860s. The fourth chapter comprised a short history the Elbe Duchies of Sleswig and Holstein and a war in the year 1864. The most important chapter is the last which comprised the period of 1865-1866 and react ion of public opinion to these events. The basis of this work is a t rend of the Aust ro-Prussian contentions in the German Confederation on the eve of war in 1866...
