Bakalářská práce "Azawad: historie, příčiny a mezinárodní okolnosti pokusu o nezávislý stát" se zabývá konfliktem na území Mali, jehož kořeny sahají až do předkoloniálního období. V první části je tedy cílem popsat historický vývoj státu Mali a zdůraznit situace, které předcházely samotnému konfliktu mezi Tuaregy a malijskou vládou, jež vedl k pokusu o vyhlášení samostatného státu Azawad v roce 2013. Velkou roli však hraje samotná geografie území Mali, což dokládá teorie Jeffrey Herbsta, která klade důraz na velikost státu, distribuci obyvatelstva a hustotu infrastruktury. Druhá část práce se tedy zaměřuje právě na tuto teorii a aplikuje ji na oblast Mali, čímž odpovídá na otázku, zdali by oblast Azawadu byla životaschopná čistě z hlediska geografie území. This bachelor thesis "Azawad: history, causes of an attempt to declare independent statehood", analyses conflict in Mali, the roots of which go back to precolonial period. The aim of the first part is to describe the historical development of Mali and highlight situations that preceded the conflict between the Tuaregs and the Malian government which led to the attempt to declare an independent state of Azawad in 2013. However, geography of the territory of Mali played a great role, as evidenced Jeffrey Herbst's theory, which highlights the size of the state, population distribution and density of infrastructure. The second part is focused primarily on this theory and applies it to the area of Mali, which answers the question of whether Azawad would be a viable region purely in terms of geographical territory.
