Tématem práce je poválečná reforma českého vysokého školství. Na rozdíl od tradiční perspektivy, v níž je komunistický experiment sledován od svého počátku k "nevyhnutelnému" zániku v roce 1989, se soustředí na jeho kořeny a schválením vysokoškolského zákona v roce 1950 končí. Díky takto otočené perspektivě odhaluje příbuznosti komunistické reformy s modernizačními tendencemi, jež ovlivňovaly vývoj také v západních státech. Práce sleduje, jak se od třicátých do padesátých let 20. století diskutovalo o budoucnosti vysokého školství, jak byl řešen rozpor mezi jejich svobodou a požadavkem na jejich veřejnou službu, a jakou odpověď na tuto otázku poskytla komunistická reforma. České vysoké školství bylo formováno humboldtovskými principy, jež se částečně prosadily v polovině 19. století. V meziválečném období se na tomto rámci nic nezměnilo, vysoké školství rostlo spíše kvantitativně, zároveň se ale rýsovaly problémy, jež bylo potřeba řešit. Pokusy ministerstva o dílčí změny narazily na odpor škol, část akademiků především pateticky bránila univerzitní autonomii. Během válečného uzavření škol se nechtěně nabídla příležitost k hlubší reflexi. Vznikla řada reformních návrhů, které nalezly uplatnění po válce. V omezeně pluralitním systému třetí republiky se o konkurenčních konceptech vedla diskuse, která... This thesis deals with a reform of Czech higher education after the Second World War. While traditional treatments follow the communist experiment from its beginnings until its 'inevitable' downfall in 1989, this work focuses on its roots and end with the adoption of the new Higher Education Act in 1950. This reversal of perspective reveals similarities between the communist reform and modernisation trends which influenced the development of higher education also in the West. We follow the discussion about the future of higher education, which went on in 1930s-1950s, try to see how universities tried to approach the tension between their freedoms and demands for serving the public, and analyse the way in which the communist reform responded to this issue. Czech higher education was formed by Humboldtian principles, which were partly implemented in mid-19th century. During the interwar period, this framework basically remained in place: higher education developed in terms of quantity rather than quality but certain problems with demanded attention also started coming to the fore. Attempts by the Ministry of Education to implement partial reforms met with resistance from the academic institutions and many academics focused on passionately defending the autonomy of universities.
