Funkcionalizací lze upravit vlastnosti nanovláken připravených elektrostatickým zvlákňováním aby se co nejlépe svou funkcí nahrazovali chybějící extracelulární matrix v hojící se ráně. U králičích střevních anastomózach se ukázala funkcionalizace nanovláken kryogenní frakcionalizací jako klíčová. Zatímco použití funkcionalizovaných PVA a chitosanových nanovláknných membrán vedlo ke strikturám střeva a silným zánětům, až další funkcionalizace PVA a chitosanových nanovláken jejich kryogenní frakcionalizací vedla k možnosti snížení dávky polymeru, což významně zredukovalo zánětlivou odpověď a podstatně zvýšilo biokompatibilitu použitého materiálu. Aplikací frakcionalizovaných nanovláken bylo dosaženo zvýšení podílu mikrocév, fibroblastů a kolagenu, což se projevilo na zvýšení biomechanické pevnosti zhojených anastomóz. Funkcionalizace polykaprolaktonových nanovláken speciálním přilepením k polypropylénové síťce je umožnilo požít jako podporu hojení fascie v břišní stěně prasat. Funkcionalizace PVA nanovláken glyoxalem vedla k jejich zvýšené stabilitě ve vodním prostředí. Aplikací membrány z PVA funkcionalizovaných nanovláken na hluboké rány v kůži králíků umožňuje výměnu dýchacích plynů mezi ránou a okolím, což podporuje proliferaci buněk a produkci kolagenu. In the rabbit intestinal anastomoses, functionalization of nanofibers by cryogenic fractionation has proven to be crucial. While the use of functionalized PVA and chitosan nanofiber membranes led to intestinal strictures and severe inflammation, further functionalization of PVA and chitosan nanofibers by their cryogenic fractionation led to the possibility of reducing the polymer dose, which significantly reduced the inflammatory response and significantly increased the biocompatibility of the material used. The application of fractionated nanofibers increased the fraction of microvessels, fibroblasts and collagen, which resulted in an increase in the biomechanical strength of healed anastomoses. The functionalization of the polycaprolactone nanofibers by special adhesion to the polypropylene mesh made it possible to use them as a support for the healing of the fascia in the abdominal wall of pigs.
