1 ABSTRAKT Tato práce se dělí na tři části, první podává přehled o dějinách filmů a seriálů o starověkém Římě na základě anglicky psané odborné literatury. Druhá část na základě odborné literatury a antických, zejména obrazových, pramenů stručně popisuje, jaké zbraně a zbroje nosili římští vojáci od konce republiky až do 2. století n. l. Třetí část popisuje kostýmy a rekvizity zbraní ve 25 filmech a seriálech vybraných na základě jejich popularity na internetových filmových databázích. Cílem této práce je zjistit, jak vypadá stereotyp římského vojáka vytvořený popkulturou, především filmy. V závěru se ukazuje, že ve filmech o starověkém Římě zřídkakdy kostým odpovídá historickému poznání o zbrojích doby, ve které se film odehrává. Některé kostýmní atributy jsou stálé a mají sloužit jako ukazatele, že herec v oku kamery je římský voják. Jedním z těchto určujících atributů je lorica segmentata, zbroj známá svým častým využitím ve filmech jako Ben Hur, Gladiátor i filmech o Asterixovi. Dalšími atributy jsou atická přilba, známá z antických reliéfů, velké hranaté štíty a nátepníky. Tyto prvky nebyly historicky nejběžnějším římským vybavením, ve filmech jsou ale používány nejčastěji, protože jsou vnímány jako specificky římské. Proto jsou využívány i ve filmech, které se odehrávají v době, která není pro... 1 ABSTRACT The thesis is divided into three major parts, the first giving an overview of the history of films and TV series about ancient Rome. This overview is based on scientific literature written in English. The second part, using scientific literature and classical sources, mostly pictorial, briefly describes weapons and armour of Roman soldiers from the Roman Republic until the end of the 2nd century A.D. The third part describes the costumes and weapon props in 25 films and TV shows picked on the basis of their popularity on Internet movie databases. The aim of this thesis is to find out, how does the stereotypical Roman soldier, created by this branch of popculture, looks like. The conclusion shows, that in the films and series about ancient Rome, the costumes rarely correspond to our historical knowledge about the armours from the times in which these films and series are set. Some costume attributes are constant and are supposed to serve as indicators, that the actor in the view of the camera is a Roman soldier. One of these attributes is lorica segmentata, armour made famous by its appearances in films like Ben-Hur, Gladiator and films about Asterix.
