Abstract: One sample (volume approx. 15 l) from the Early Modern fill of the town fortification moat (?) of Šumperk was submitted to carpological and xylotomical analyses. Through these analyses Šumperk becomes a new archaeobotanical location in Moravia. More than 47 000 diasporas of 142-150 taxa of herbs + 22 taxa of woody plants (+ fragments, wood, charcoals) were obtained from this material. Our main aim was to compare the collection of species from Šumperk with Prague finds from the same period. There was no success in discovering any utility plant from the New World or foreign species from other continents. The finds from Šumperk moat proved the intensive anthropisation of its surrounding.
