Cílem předložené diplomové práce je na základě aplikace teorií od Darona Acemoglu a Jamese A. Robinsona na případ Jihoafrické republiky ověřit, zda nastavení institucí ve státě ovlivňuje fungování a prosperitu státu. Autoři pojednávají ve své knize "Proč státy selhávají? Kořeny moci, prosperity a chudoby" o teorii extraktivních a inkluzivních institucí. Pro vysvětlení těchto termínů zmiňují dvě města Nogales (jedno v USA, druhé v Mexiku), které spolu sousedí. Ačkoliv byl historický vývoj těchto měst téměř identický, zejména po kulturní stránce, dnes se tato města liší po stránce ekonomické, zdravotní péče nebo ve vzdělání obyvatelstva. Autoři považují za příčinu rozdílů odlišné typy institucí, jelikož ty mexické mají kořeny z období kolonizace Ameriky Španěly. Conquestadoři na kolonizovaném území plenili, původní obyvatelstvo zotročovali a zlato spolu s dalšími surovinami odváželi ze země zpět do Evropy. Tamní elity se po dekolonizaci přizpůsobily tomuto zavedenému pořádku a v těchto zemích přetrvávají extraktivní instituce povětšinou až dodnes. Inkluzivní instituce naopak umožňují a podporují zapojení širokých mas do hospodářských aktivit ve státě, rozvíjí jejich talent a schopnosti, umožňují se lidem samostatně rozhodovat. Pro instituce inkluzivní je zapotřebí existence soukromého vlastnictví,... The aim of this diploma thesis is to verify, based on the application of the theories from Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson on the case of South Africa, whether the setting of institutions in the state influences on the function and prosperity of the state. The authors discuss in their book "Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity and Poverty" about the theory of extractive and inclusive institutions. To explain these terms, they mention the two cities of Nogales (one in the US, the other in Mexico). Although the historical development of these cities was almost identical, especially in cultural terms, today these cities differ in terms of economic, health care or education of the population. The authors consider different types of institutions to be the cause of the differences, as the Mexican ones are rooted in the colonization period of America by the Spain. Conquestadors looted in the colonized territory, enslaved the indigenous peoples, and transported gold, along with other resources from the country back to Europe. The local elites, after decolonization, have adapted to this established order and, in these countries, extractive institutions still remain to this day.
