[eng][cze] The aim of this thesis is focus on topic of rainforest and to explore its meaning in a novel of chilean writer Luis Sepúlveda - The old man who read love stories. Inspired by his own experience of meeting indian Shuar tribe and amazonian nature, author in this novel presents rainforest as live being to which a human is not subordinate nor superordinate but he has to take it as equal and he has to respect it and accept its laws. This work is also dealing with presence and development of the topic in different periods of hispanoamerican literature as well as with a genre called the novel of rainforest, which follows from this topic. Key words: Luis Sepúlveda, rainforest, The old man who read love stories, novel of rainforest, natureÚlohou tejto bakalárskej práce je zamerať sa na pojatie témy pralesa a preskúmať jeho význam v románe čilského spisovateľa Luisa Sepúlvedy - O starcovi, ktorý rád čítal ľúbostné romány. Inšpirovaný svojimi skúsenosťami zo stretnutia s indiánskym kmeňom Shuarov a so samotnou amazonskou prírodou, autor v tomto románe predstavuje prales ako živú bytosť, ktorej človek nie je nadradený ani podradený, ale má ju chápať ako rovnocennú a musí ju rešpektovať a prijať jej zákony. Práca sa takisto zoberá výskytom a vývojom danej témy v rôznych obdobiach hispanoamerickej literatúry rovnako ako aj žánrom, vyplývajúcim z tejto tematiky, nazývaným román pralesa.
