Základem každého průzkumu a posouzení dřevěných konstrukcí staveb je hodnocení pomocí smyslových metod, v prvé řadě vizuální, kdy je jakostní stav prvků stanoven na základě viditelných vad a poškození nebo jejich zjevných příznaků. Hodnocení pomocí smyslových metod bývá doplněno jednoduchými mechanickými zkouškami (vryp do povrchu materiálu, odběr třísky) a měřením vlhkosti (případně pH) povrchových i podpovrchových vrstev dřeva, které napoví, jaké jsou v konstrukci podmínky a jaká zde hrozí rizika z hlediska poškození dřeva biologickými i abiotickými činiteli. The basis of research of wooden constructions of historical buildings is the evaluation of their condition with use of sensorial methods. In cases when some parts of constructions are fully or partially inaccessible and in cases when we want to get deeper knowledge about their qualitative and mechanical condition, it is necessary to use other instrumental methods.
