Podchlazení, které doprovází vznik pevné fáze, může vést ke vzniku metastabilní pevné fáze nebo skla.Na druhé straně umožňuje měření rovnováhy kapalina-kapalina v metastabilní oblasti. Supercooling accompanying formation of solid phase from liquid can lead to a metastable solid or glassy state. On the other hand it enables measuring liquid-liquid equilibria in a metastable region.
